Leaving Dis VMK

Yes, I won't be coming on the VMK side of Dis anymore.

Final straw came last night, when I was explaining to someone how I had gotten two animators desks as part of a trade ,and was waiting to gift someone I had chosen from the dis list. Anyway, they made a comment which confirmed what I had known for a while now. There has been a lot of behind my back sniping and whinging for ages..why you ask? Because I have a lot of virtual stuff and people were thinking I was selfish (yes stuff thats not even real for crying out loud)

Well for one, I have gifted a lot to people, an awful lot, and a good amount to people I dont even know. Lately its been hats, pins and ship parts. In the past, too much to remember.

Which leads me onto my "stuff". Anyone who knows me knows I do a lot of trading...and more than they know. Most of the time I'm on VMK, Im doing more trading (or waiting for trades) than I am playing. THAT is how I get my stuff, by hard work. I spend a lot of time scouring the trade sites and arranging deals, then finishing off the process and trading. My christmas room for example, took me months and months of hard work, through trading and host games.

Does my christmas room mean I don't gift to people? no. I certainly would not gift anyone anything in my christmas room, as that has been my main goal and I am now very proud of the room. But does that mean I do not gift other things? no.

Maybe the people who are envious when they see the stuff I have, should actually try to attempt even a tenth of the work I put in trading, and then they might start to have the items they want themselves.

Also do not automatically assume that because you don't see gifting, it does not mean it is not happening. Maybe I should have made a post each time I gifted someone

There has been far too much complaining, backstabbing and whining among certain parts of the Dis VMK community, and the game is certianly becoming less and less fun.

So in closing, just because I do not gift YOU the thing you want, does not mean I do not gift. Go some place else and take your green face with you, and then try actually working for what you want rather than expecting it to be gifted. Then you become the next thing up from a beggar. Like in life, if you want it, you must work for it.

Wow, Mad. I'm sorry that you are feeling that way, and running into this problem.

I know you spend a lot of time trading, and also playing games. You have earned all of the stuff you have, and you have a right to do with it as you please.

I know some people have older computers and can't play the games, or can't get to the parks as much as others, but there are many people here who have gifted to help others out. A person who does have a lot of stuff shouldn't have to feel bad because of it.

Gifting isn't a requirement in this game. It's something that someone does to share what they have with people who have been nice to them.

Mad, I don't agree with anyone going to anyone and asking to be gifted something. So what if you have alot of stuff, it is a result of your hard work. It would be wrong to walk up to a person on the street or to walk into someones house and start asking them to "gift" them something; so it shouldn't be done on VMK either. I am glad though that you will still be around VMK your christmas room is awesome. I hope it is still ok for friends to stop by there and chat for awhile. Sorry this has become such a pain for you.

i'm sorry to see you leave the vmk boards, but i'm glad to see you're not completely leaving the dis. you are a friendly face on each thread you post on................. it is selfish for people to expect you to gift them. if they can't get the things they want without begging you for them, then they either don't play vmk enough, or they don't work hard enough. i've never had the pleasure of meeting you in the vmk world, and again, i'm sorry to see you leaving the vmk boards.

Good Morning Mad-

I really hope that you do not let the actions of some ruin your time here on the VMK boards....We would like you to stay and be a part of our "family" and with all families there is a little bickering and yes even conflict sometimes.

I have not heard any of the "behind your back" comments or sniping...not saying that it wasn't happening I just did not hear it.

I truly hope you reconsider you decision to leave and stay. You are, most of the time , an true assest to our community and we really would be sad to see you go.

Mad, sorry that you are having problems with rude and inconsiderate people. I hope that the good will win over the bad and that you will consider staying on the VMK boards. I know you were generous and kind and gave me a part of the ship I needed. Even though you were offering it free I just couldn't take it without giving the pan hat in return. I don't understand how others just expect that free should be given to them and then talk about people behind their backs when it is not.

Although I am sure I do not do near the amount of gifting that you do I can understand where you are coming from. Since I have gotten better at fireworks and can regularly get the magic pin I have started gifting one of every five I get. I learned my lesson though with the first gifted pin when the giftee asked me to be friend. I accepted and was then constantly followed and asked for another free pin. I still gift .... just no friends requests attached.

I have also been gifting the blue crates they are now giving in fireworks and have given many many store items and quest items. I too have a Christmas room and recently put it on friends only bc when I would go in there and friends would drop in and others would follow all I would get is "owner can I have" or "owner will you trade" and when you refuse you get "owner you mean" or something similar.

I am sorry it has gotten to point that you have to leave the dis boards but just know that you will be missed.

This is truly a shame, and it just highlights many peoples' weakness. Greed. I may not know you directly, but I'm pretty sure you were a great person on the Dis. If there ever was an award for kindness on the dis, you'd be my nominee.

Heya, Mad!
I know all too well how some people have tunnel vision and only see what they want to see...don't let them get you down! If you'll notice, I take "mini-breaks" from this and other vmk forums. I can go for months without posting anything, until tempers cool. Take a "mini-break" and see if things look better after a few weeks.
Either way, I'm sure we will run into each other again on the game.

I have only been on the boards a few months and know how hard it is to aquire items. I have not asked for anything and have gifted to others. There are some very rude people, but don't let them get the best of you. I have read many of your post and have lurned a lot from them. If you do leave you will be greatly missed. We need the seasoned pros to help the new people. Hope to meet you in VMK and get to see you Christmas room.

Mad, I am so sorry you feel like leaving. I know I felt total frustration like this when I hosted a gift thread for gold doors. I will never host another gift thread, everyone knows who you are, and PM's are soo easy! I was bombarded with "where's my...?" or "I need another"

Trading is one of the fun parts of the game, sometimes I get a stellar trade and sometimes I feel like I got taken, but it's all part of it. Trading can be tricky which is why I consider it an art. And art takes practice!

Gifting is easier (both to gift and to receive), but it is not a required part of the game - well heck, trading isn't a required part of the game either. You can get lots and lots of stuff and never feel obligated to gift or trade it. Shame on anyone who says 'oh you have so much wouldn't you like to donate it ...'

I have never heard any sniping about you, you have always been a fun person to see in the game. I hope you continue to post as I enjoy your comments and insight.

Its true gifting isnt required in the game but it is fun and makes a nice environment. I dont have to prove myself on my gifting, so I wont bother.

Funny talking about the fireworks pins, I fairly often hand them out like candy, in fact qruthie has been a recipient of probably 10 or 12 for her quests and games.

Regarding the back-biting - oh it is happening. I've been playing this a long long time and know an awful lot of people, thats all I will say on that.

Finally you're right about taking a break from things rather than a total outright departure. I will do that and see how things go over time. Hopefully the attitude of some people , some "adults" who behave like 5 year olds in a candy store, will change. But I doubt it.

Ty again for the kind words and will hopefully catch you all sometime here in the future. Of course, on VMK too all the time, since I have no life

which you feel you want to leave VMK. I know there are a lot of people
who are as you describe them, but there are many who are really lovely
people to enjoy playing VMK with.
