Leaving a suitcase behind

Has anyone done this? We have an old suitcase that is ripped and can do a journey or two but I'd like to replace it. I was going to take it out there with us and buy a new one, I'd have to leave it somewhere when we leave.

Has anyone left a suitcase behind? If so what did you do with it? I'd hate to leave it in the resort room and have some poor mousekeeper have to get rid of it. Would a store take it when we bought a new one? Can you just stick it in a dumpster?

Also can anyone recommend a good place to buy luggage?

I left a small bag (large carry-on that was filled with presents on my way over, but not needed on my way home) with the desk at a hotel in London. I asked if they could keep it in case another patron needed it, but the receptionist was delighted and kept it for himself. He said it was just what he needed.

I would check with the front desk or the luggage assistance staff. It might be helpful to have around in case another guest's bag breaks.

2 years ago one of our suitcases got badly damaged on the way out so we had to buy a new one to replace it. One day we seen our housekeeper and asked if there was somewhere we could dispose of the old one, she took it from us and said no bother for her to bin it. We thanked her and gave her a good tip

I would think if you saw someone and asked them to do it for you they would be happy to dispose of it (for a nice tip of course)

We've bought hardshell cases from samsonite at lake buena vista outlets.

we replaced a damaged case last time we went. We bought it from Walmart

Thanks for all the replies, I'm glad it's not a problem leaving it with Mousekeeping! You never know someone may be able to get a bit more use out of it It's still usable if not flying (and having someone chuck your luggage around)
