Have any of you left a snack in your DVC fridge or freezer for Mousekeeping, when you check out? We left about six ice pops (Winn-Dixie tropical assortment and were they good...:goodvibes) in our freezer, when we checked out recently. With their being individually wrapped, we hoped that the Mousekeeping staff had a nice cool snack.

On the other hand it is possible that they might be required to throw out any food or beverages left by guests due to possible liability issues if they should consume any of it, individual wrapping notwithstanding.

Don't know the rules but I sure wouldn't eat anything someone else left behind.

Not certain, but I think one of the small perks of the job would be the unopened groceries. We left a new bottle of orange juice, a new bottle of wine, cans of tuna, soup... I hope someone took some of that home.

OP I love your SSR signature. Very original!

We stock up on groceries during our stay (we don't do the DD - eat most breakfasts and dinners at the villa) and always seem to order way too much. When we leave we leave a note for mousekeeping telling them they are free to take whatever they would like (and are allowed to.)

I like to think that they keep at least some of it - seems such a shame that it would go to waste.

We often meet our neighbors out on the balcony or deck and often them what we have left unopenned when we leave, the rest of the openned things, we toss.

mousekeeping has to througth away everthing, includding sodas + beers.
We would give unused stuff to folks the night before

Thanks - it took a while, but I think I'm finally happy with it...!

As for the comments, that Mousekeeping is told to throw away everything, this might be the "official" rule. However, I'm certain that they would indulge themselves on occasion, especially with a ice pop on a hot day... :goodvibes

I have given the bell staff sealed things like ice pops and chips to put in their break room. One year we wound up with a bunch of leftovers, not yet opened boxes of frozen waffles, some soup cans and ice pops, etc. The bellman said he knew just the group of poor college student/employees to pass them on to.

I have left almost full laundry detergent and cleaning wipes for mousekeeping.

Once at HHI we left wine coolers and beer in a box (by accident). We went back about 15 mins. later and they were gone.

It never fails that we order more groceries then we can eat while at BWV. We've left bottled water, cereal, peanut butter, soft drinks, chips, frozen pizza, jelly and my favorate..frozen twinkes. I'll find the mousekeeper for our room and show them that we want them to have it all. Also last Christmas, we had a large container of liquid Chree free laundry detergent and had 3/4's of leftover. It went to our mousekeeper. Everytime they have always been most appreciative of anything we've left for them. Remember their jobs are minimum wage, and even with tipping left for them, every little extra just helps them along.

Once we had just taken some chocolate chip cookies out of the oven when the T&T lady knocked on the door. We let her in and she did her thing. Then we invited her to sit down and have a glass of cold milk and some warm chocolate chip cookies with us. She didn't speak English, but she sure enjoyed her break!:goodvibes

We usually visit during Valentines day and I have left a card and a chocolate treat for mousekeeper and they have taken it.

That is one of the nicest things I've heard of someone doing.

We always have unopened groceries left too at the end of our stay. We always hope mousekeeping takes them home. We throw all the opened stuff away so all the unused stuff is very visable and hopefully taken.

At AKL in March, we overestimated the amount of water we needed (it wasn't nearly as hot as in past years) and had about 15 unopened bottles left. We offered them to the bellman who took our luggage, and he happlit brought them down to their breakroom/office. It was nice that they didn't go to waste.

We too have left water and soda that hasn't been touched hoping mousekeeping would/could use it. Giving stuff directly to the mousekeeper or bellman is a great idea! That way you know for sure it is going to get used.

Although it was many years ago, I did call and ask. I was told our mousekeeper could keep anything unopened with the exception of alcoholic beverages as long as I left a note listing what I left for her. So to this day, that's what I do.

We always leave unopened food in the fridge when we leave but I have never left a note; I think I may start doing that.
We checked into Boardwalk last year and were putting away groceries when I discovered an opened box of wrapped ice cream bars that I assumed was left behind by the previous owner. We had only been in the room 10 minutes when there was a knock on the door. It was a mousekeeper asking for the ice cream she left in the freezer. I thought it was very amusing!

The condo we stay at in Maui has a process for donating unopened groceries to the local foodbank...it would be great if Disney could do that! You take food down to a barrel in the lobby and they arrange pick up.

It would be shameful if they just threw it away.
