Since we are a Grand Gathering AND since we are going during free DDP, I figured we should have more ADR's than usual. I have 7 out of 8 days/nights booked. I have left one night free for each family to do something on their own, and mainly so we can have a little wiggle room...spontaneity has always been a big part of our trip. I am certain that we won't be able to just walk in anywhere, but will I be able to call with a few choices and get something while I am there?

We are excited about the DDP. However, I am definitely seeing the "cost" with having to firm up restaurant choices so far in advance. I am not complaining, I am merely stating observations.

Any advice/opinions are appreciated. Thanks.

I have gone 2x's (2005/2004) as a grand gathering (not on dining plan) and we booked some adr's before we left and we did a few while we were there. I wouldn't suggest just walking in with a large party (we have walked in with 6) ...if you knew the night before or that morning I would say call then.

I know...it can be frustrating to know exactly what you are going to do before you get there, but if that is your families free night, maybe you should leave it open. If not, what about doing lunch together, and then having time at night for free time. I would call ahead, especially with all of the free diners.

We were there last October during their free DP. Had to change one ADR at the last minute. There was nothing available for the rest of the evening, unless we wanted to dine at 10:00 p.m. (Not advisable with our children.) We were able to make an ADR for the following night, so we didn't lose that TS credit. I'm not saying you can't call DD & get a table for the same night, but it has been noted time & again that it can be very difficult now that the DP is in place. Good luck! Whatever you do, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I think I will make an ADR now for just my family, (rather than the whole Grand Bunch of us).

However, momoftriplets, my closest friend in the world has triplets, too. When she delivered, she had a 1 and a 2 year old (both girls) at home. By the way, they were spontaneous, and a set of identical (boys) and a fraternal (girl). Supposedly this scenario is extremely, extremely rare.
