I am now thinking- stay a week or a liitle more of our 14 nights at the house with the rental car- do Universal and other attractions other than Disney- then stay on site- for 4-7 days- get rid of rental car- do dining plan- which would cover the character meals- and get tickets-

Any ideas on where, how to book a 4-7 night stay on site relatively cheaply?

Does this make sense?

Our dates are April 19- May 3

Oh my word I am so overwhelmed - I think I need a travel agent-

Any volunteers? LOL

If you use a travel agent, you cannot call disney to check on things, they will have no record of you. Everything is done through the travel agent, they own your reservation until you check in.

I am confused by your question. Are you going to have an off site rental for 14 nights and are thinking of leaving it empty for 4 - 7 nights while you stay onsite at WDW? I wouldn't do that. I think your idea of staying offsite and doing US and the other Orlando attractions and then moving to Disney is a good idea. I would book the offsite rental for that number of nights and then completely move to an onsite Disney hotel.
It is hard to advise you where to stay without a bit more information. How many in your party? What are the ages? What time of year are you going?
Good Luck

According to the WDW website, a stay for a family of 4 (Children 9 and 6 is the ages I put in, YMMV) at the All Stars Movies resort, with 5day hoppers and dining plan, from April 29-May 3, would cost you just over $1932. Is the move worth it for you?
You might find a code, or you might be able to get a AAA discount, but any way you look at it, it's pretty expensive.
Oh, and there are definitely travel agents who will do all the footwork for you of checking up on your reservations, checking and applying whatever codes are applicable, and have a wonderful reputation. These boards can point you in the right direction...look for links! I have only gone through AAA travel agents, and the one I had I would NOT recommend, but again, there are some AAA agents who get rave reviews, too.
