So I am in school, its going great...doing a double major....totally different from one another...but there is a method to my madness..lol..anyway...I am in my ASL class (American Sign Language) and we have to tell a story in sign language. Now mind you I have only been in the class for 3 weeks and it is fast paced class...(jan-march for part 1-march-may part 2). I am not understanding why my teacher is looking at me funny while I am signing...I did it...I confused a sign with a "BAD WORD"...I didn't even know the word existed in sign...but just my luck I signed it over and over....I could have died..lol Just shows you that a female dog is not exclusive to the english language and that my female dog was wearing an ugly flower dress...lolol

Oh, this is so funny! The joys of learning a new language... soooo many ways to feel and look like a fool!

But don't feel too bad. I'm sure the teacher got a chuckle out of it and will remember your story way longer than the others that were told!

That is funny! I have a friend who's double majoring in ASL and language pathology, and on numerous occasions she's screwed things up. It's all part of the process! Better now than later.

I have a problem bending my fingers for some of the signs..(CT) and I mess up constantly...lol,, I just never dressed someone in ugly , flower clothes and called them a (girl dog...lolol)

ha, I just checked and she only took off 5 points for that...wonder if it was a point per letter of the word lolol

Well you are not alone, I took asl and we all had alot of good laughs at stuff. I did snow white and the seven dwarfs for the book I had to sign. What I thought was funny was how many people used books that would repeat itself so they would not have to do so much signing. Do your teacher hear? My first did. I want to continue but school is so expensive. Enjoy yourself in learning. I think its a beautiful language. Jo

yes I do have hearing. I do enjoy the class, and did not know how many different types of sign language. I have a great teacher and she makes it fun, even if we do use a bad word or two...lolol

That's funny! I do quality assurance in a relay call center, so a lot of the supervisors here are deaf. I've tried to learn sign a few times, but I have a hard time getting past fingerspelling and a few basic signs (water, bathroom, go home, break, "my name is", "how are you", who, what, etc) But good luck with the ASL! It's definitely a beneficial skill to have.

I think its a great skill to have. I have class again this evening and I am hoping I don't make the same mistake...:rotfl:
