As first time cruises I am trying to figure out a few things....

We sail Friday and I have been look and see umbrella's on the beach at CC. Are those free. Do I need get to the beach early to get one?

Trying to figure out my plans for the day!!!

Yes, they are free. There are many chairs and umbrellas and we have never had an issue getting what we needed.

CC is an awesome sight when you get off early in the morning. Plenty of beautiful umbrellas. We chose to get off right after the people who were running the 5K. Then you can choose the location that most suites you. The edge of the water, or maybe Pelican Plunge.

The umbrella's do not move so you can't take them to the edge of the water. There is usually two lounge chairs one on each side of it. Then a short chair in front of those that you can move to the waters edge.

You can also move the lounge chairs to make 4 etc by an umbrella. They are pretty close together.

Can someone recommend a shady spot on Serenity Bay?

The shadiest spot I have found on CC-SB:
Pass the bar towards the water, turn left, go pass the bar, on your left will be a hammock that is mostly in the shade all day.
Or get under an umbrella and move your chair throughout the day.

We were on CC a couple years ago on a family vacation. By the time my wife and I got out to the beach, my Daughter and her Husband and my son and his wife and arranged six chairs around a couple of umbrellas that we enjoyed the entire day. We went snorkeling and had lunch and then the buckets of beer started to arrive! I still don't know who was ordering all that beer, but it sure did make a warm afternoon pass in a hurry. I love Castaway Cay and can't wait to get back there in Feb of next year!
