I just had to comment on the Leave a Legacy granite slabs located at the front of Epcot. Does anyone else think these detract from the entrance?

They clutter up the whole area and really take away from the awe one felt when getting close up to the "Ball". And really, unless you've purchased one, who is honestly looking at these? Just another way for Disney to make a buck, which is usually ok with me as a stockholder, but this isn't good .

haha it's funny you mentioned that, we purchased one as a surprise for my dad but in the 2 times we've been to epcot since, the computer wasn't working, so we couldn't find it  so much for that.

I don't mean to offend any that have bought these, they're essentially not a bad idea, but why right in front, or what about doing the brick pavers on the ground?

We got one on our honeymoon with the AP special, buy one get one free, so really we have 2. I think it's neat and even though they're large, I don't think they take away anything for me.

We haven't purchased it...yet. But, I do agree they take something away for the AWE that you used to feel as you entered Epcot. $ is what it's all about, and so it goes.

i think they're neat. it'll be nice someday when my daughter goes back with her children and shows them the pictures. the bogo with the ap was a good deal.

I agree.. the bricks at MK are so nice and add to the atmosphere. The Leave a Legacy stones at Epcot reminds me of some war memorial, and the engraved photos already seem dated and cheesy... like something you'd find in a booth in the mall.

Please no offense, to anyone who has one, because I understand the excitement and sentiment of leaving a part of yourself at the World, but I think it could've been done better!

We bought one way back when they first started. Ours are easy to find as we are right by the members of Nsync pictures(which are all worn from people touching them) The reason we did it was I thought how cool when our kids come back in 20 years maybe with their families and they can show a picture of how they looked then right in the park. Problem now is we have had two more children since that first one- so this time we may have to do another one with the little ones. But I agree that the location of these could have been better.

When we were getting our Old Key West Vaction Club sales pitch ten years ago, I was fascinated with the 50-year expiration date on the "ownership interests." What would happen to the property after that? I suggested that the whole area could be turned into a memorial park, where Disney devotees could arrange to have their remains interred.
The sales rep paused only for a nano-second, then continued with her presentation. But I guess she stored the idea and sold it to the EPCOT people.
The problem with the LEGACY things is that they are on these heavy stone slabs that just shout cemetery. But there's a bright side: when the "Walk Around the World" paving stones were being sold, the contract specifically said that there was no guarantee they could not be uprooted or removed for any reason in the future. Let's have a close look at the Legacy contracts.

I agree with the OP... :( I don't have a problem with the idea of the Legacy tiles, but the placement of them. It used to be a beautiful entrance, lots of flowers, etc. but now it really does look like some kind of memorial.

I don't like them either. I think they are a wonderful idea.. very cool to be able to leave something of yours behind, ya know? But I think the things are ugly and an eyesore. I wish that Disney could have come up with a better looking idea!

I think the leave a legacy concept is cool, but would never get one done. I was a little disappointed when I first saw them. We stopped and looked at them our first trip after they were introduced, but I had expected something more.

The problem with the LEGACY things is that they are on these heavy stone slabs that just shout cemetery.

If they decide to move them, they can put them near the Haunted Mansion...

The style and location just don't do it for me. I miss the fountain and planters that used to be there. Instead, it looks like a futuristic graveyard.
I probably would have been suckered into buying one anyway (We own a brick at MK), but the tiles really don't look too good. I saw one of our friend's tiles, and she and her husband looked like ghosts. One more thing, with our family of 5, we would have had to pay for three tiles, and that was way too expensive.

I think it was a neat idea but those huge granite slabs totally ruin the front entrance of Epcot, at least for me and my family. I feel like I'm in a science fiction movie and the world had been destroyed and this was all that was left. Maybe others agree as it doesn't seem like they have went over real well either because there seems to be many empty spots left.

I suppose a lot of people who aren't crazy about the walls still bought tiles anyway. Hey, they're going to be there for the next 20 years or so regardless of whether everyone likes them or not, so why not put little junior and missy's pictures up there as souveniers for the next generation of Disney fans to see?

I don't take offense to anyone who doesn't like them (and as I posted we have 2). Even though I don't think they detract anything from the entrance for me, I also don't think they're beautiful or anything like that. I wish you could do more than 2 people though, as we're a family of 3. I would have thought that you could purchase a larger tile for more people, and was a bit disappointed that our tiles have me and my husband in one and me and my daughter in the other.

You didn't get the location slide in the mail about 8 weeks out after you did it? It shows the location. I hope the next time you go the computer is up so you can see it. Just think for 20 years it will be there.

They really are ugly.Sorry  It used to be so pretty , now we just dash thru the area.

It does take away from the entrance I think. Seems like just a smart marketing scheme, a way for Disney to make $$ and make us think we're getting something special. Doesn't appeal to me at all. It's cluttered and a mess IMHO.

it reminds me of that scene in fantasia where its the creation of the world and the mountains are being thrust out of the ground.

we have 2 as well. one of my DM & DD and one of my DB & I
and the computers were broken when we were there too. but we have the thing they sent in the mail so we could find them.

cool idea though :teeth: I like going back and seeing them year after year and bringing a friend along and just run by "*points* there's meee!!!" *their eyes bug out* hahaha fun times :grouphug:
