Least Appealing Resorts?

As a DVC member, which resorts to you are the least appealing? Why? Since becoming a member, I have only stayed at our home resort.

I am curious if any of you have bought into a resort that you wish you didn't because you didn't like it as much as you thought you would.

We are not fans of dark décor. We prefer the bright colors which is part of why we chose to by at OKW & SSR. :ccat: We stayed as SSR last month and just loved it! We will be at OKW in December. Every resort has a plus and minus to me but décor is one of the biggies with us.

Maybe not quite on point, but what about the opposite? We bought points at Vero Beach Resort in the late 90's, sight unseen, and quite honestly thought we might never stay there, and didn't for several years. Once we did start staying at VB, we wish we had bought many more points there. We find it just lovely and relaxing. Some of of favorite vacations have been in the beach cottages there.

As far as the original question, I think all of the resorts have their charm. One thing I would say, I am very glad they are not all the same. Wouldn't it be terrible if all of DVC resorts were just cookie cutters of each other?

Yes, it sure would!! That is the great thing about being able to use points at non-home resorts. :)

We have yet to find a resort that does not have some redeeming quality that DW and I like.
We have stayed at all the East Coast resorts except VGF & PBV.
I find that the choice of resort for us has more to do with what we want to do that particular vacation.

BLT just doesn't do it for us. Makes us feel like we are staying in any high-rise condo anywhere.

That being said, we are very disappointed in the DVC rehabs. Several resorts/rooms have lost their charm with the generic furnishings and decorating changes.

I am looking to try something new, but for this next trip it will be a challenge. I am going solo and my husband, being the fierce protector that he is, would feel more comfortable if he knows I am staying somewhere that does not require me to be outside when going back to the room in the evening. I am so thankful and so blessed that he loves me so deeply that it results in him having peace of mind about where I am, but I really want to try something new.

As I look at the pictures, there are a few resorts that have zero appeal to me. Bay Lake looks very sterile and like the hotels we have stayed at in New Orleans. The Polynesian Villas have zero appeal. Old Key West reminds me of an apartment complex or even a moderate resort. I dont want to "judge a book by its cover" and assume I will not like something based upon photos.

I really do like Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani, but trying something new seems the perfect thing to do when I am going solo.

BWV for me, purely because I hate the room decor.

We stayed at BLT over our wedding and loved it, the location, the decor and everything was great and definitely a firm favourite

The only DVC I've stayed at that I disliked was SS. The rooms were musty and mildewy, even after switching rooms and having the room sanitized. It was bad for my kids' asthma and just unpleasant to be in the room. Booking a resort in the Florida humidity with carpeting that opens to the exterior is something I won't do again. Have loved every other DVC I've stayed at.

Least appealing is so subjective. My least favorite is Kidani, because the hallways are so very long and I saw very few animals. But I love Jambo, from which I saw LOTS more animals, even though I was on the safari that's shared by Kidani and Jambo-it seemed the animals preferred being at Jambo too! But I know there are Kidani fans. DH really dislikes BWV, too "bustling" for him, partially. His reaction to walking in there to meet friends of ours was "Don't you EVER make me stay here!" Yet I like BWV-I think the Boardwalk view is the one of the most beautiful balcony views at WDW.

I Arrived in Orlando tired (jet lag) and fell asleep in the car on our way to WDW. I woke up from my sleep when i was told that we have finally arrived. So i opened my eyes and i asked the driver if we are visiting somebody in an apartment. I was shocked in disbelief when i was told that we are in SSR! The outside corridors are so ugly that it reminded me of a warehouse. SSR to me reminds me of the Westgate resorts littered along I-4.
SSR to me does not qualify for a deluxe resort.
Interior of the villa looks like the usual DVC resort setup though. No complaints about that

We have had mildew and mold issues at OKW and VB, both stays required a room change. At VB they moved us to a room with a stand alone de-humidifier running in the room.

The only way to know which resorts to add to your repeat list is to stay there. Everyone has different expectations and likes. Things that I don't care about can be important to others and vice versa.

Oh yes, I agree completely. I will see what is available at my 7-month mark/window and decide from there if I can move somewhere. I dont like the idea of a split stay, but this just may be the time to do it. :) In the meantime, watching YouTube room tutorials might be a good idea.

I prefer the DVC properties that have interior doors. I do an annual solo trip and always feel safer staying at one of the resorts that have that type of set up.

We haven stayed at most resorts and liked all of them. We didn't love OKW for us it was just too old and tired really needs internally gutted and redone. We also have no real desire to stay at BWV I'm not sure why as we love then Boardwalk but BCV is the one resort outstanding for us.

Our favorites are AKV, BLT and VGF

I think all Disney villas would be acceptable to me, but I have no desire to stay in WL or Aulani. I've spent the last 15 years in Oregon and Alaska. Before that, I lived in Hawaii and took my kids to Ko Olina all the time. Going on vacation, I'd rather avoid the themes that look too familiar.

I've actually only been to OKW and VGC. I liked OKW a lot and absolutely loved VGC. Most appealing villa to me after VGC is VGF.

Personally I think it's difficult to not like any of the DVC resorts. When this issue comes up it's really 2 issues for the most part, best resort to own at and best resort to stay at. IMO they are often NOT the same. SSR likely is the one that comes up most for people not to stay at but it's the best value to own at. It's also the only one you see commonly referenced as people owning at but never staying at. Personally I think most people make their resort choices on emotional grounds often even when they do their research. But plans and preferences change over time and many end up preferring other options than they started out with. IMO it's much better to make a $15K misstep than a $40K one such as buying the Poly of VGF and not staying there routinely.
