Has anyone here on the Dis leased (buy back guarantee) a car from one of the French car manufacturers while on holiday in Europe?
How did it work out for you? Were there any hidden expenses?
We have not done it but we have rented from AutoEurope. 40 days, pick up and drop off in downtown Amsterdam was $920 Canadian, only extra expenses were tolls and fuel. We put approx. 18,000km on that poor car.

Did you stop anywhere? That's 450 km a day, or 18.75 km per hour per 24 hour day.
If you only paid $920, they HAD to lose thousands of dollars (or Euros) on renting to you. Here in the U.S. that many miles would have reduced the value of a car by thousands.
Good thing their 3 euro cent tax isn't going into effect until 2012, that would have cost the rental company $540 euros alone.
Most cars in Europe with very few exceptions are standard 5 speeds, so if you can only drive an automatic, you are going to have problems. Also, gas is very expensive here, so budget accordingly! The roads are lot smaller than in the states and so are the parking lots. You can always tell the US military parkers in a store lot as they take up two spaces!

Thanks. I´m European (Icelandic) myself and have driven A LOT in Europe so I´m very well aware of how things are different than in the States. We have both an automatic and a manual car so that´s no problem for us.
