Has anyone join any of those sites to learn how to ebay well.. just curious.. I was so impressed by the lady that posted she ebayed her way to Disney.. has anyone else done this.. very impressing! Does anyone have any good sites that helped them learn the ropes???

I can honestly tell you I learned how to ebay here on the DIS. Awhile back we had an ebay your way to disney thread (about 2 years ago). Not sure if thats the thread you were referring to. Anyhow, I spent a few weeks reading every single post. I want to say there were 100's of them. I learned so much that I took the plunge then. Well, now I'm almost 3000 items sold in the last 2 years. It is a great additional source of income for our family.

I started about a year ago and have sold on and off. I have about 2/3 the amount of money we will need for our 12 night florida vacation next summer (and we are a family of six so need large accommodations or two rooms). It is fun after you get your stuff listed. It is hard for me to get the umph up to actually take the pictures and write up the listing.

My best piece of advice....learn to properly weigh your items...buy a scale. Otherwise you lose money on shipping and depending on what the item is you can lose half of your profit. (can you tell my stuff sells for small amounts sometimes lol).

Good luck.

Is this the same thread?? Ebaying your way to Disney :confused3

The sticky at the top of the Budget Board here - ebay FAQs - will give you some very useful info on just how you need to proceed..

Good luck - and happy eBaying!! :flower:

I had this question also, I have been thinking about the same thing. I will read ebay faq and just read the other post listed by Pooh's Pal

No, the thread was much, much larger than that. It was actually started by C.Ann who replied already.
I tried a search but it was taking forever. If you have the time you might want to do a general ebay serach here on the budget board. There have been lots of useful info on the topic.

I think one of the best ways to learn is to just do it. Pick one item to sell at a time until you've got the hang of it.

Look at other peoples auctions, see how they word them, not only the item description but the payment and return policies. I had to play around with my wording over a couple differant auctions to find out what I wanted to say and what I wanted my policies to be.

If you don't have one, you will want to get a digital camera. Posting even a single picture will help SO much in getting your items sold. Most people don't buy things sight unseen, after all! And I second the idea of getting a scale to weigh your packages. It doesn't have to be a postage scale, either. I use a digital food scale that I had bought when I was on Weight Watchers. Works for anything up to 5 pounds. I just take the weight and use the Shiping Calculator on the listing, and then the buyer just pays the actual shiping cost. I've never under-charged for shiping! I also ONLY ship with Priorty Mail, you get free shiping suplies, it's fast, and it's not that much more than parcel post anyway.

You do not need to pay money to take courses or seminars on how to eBay.

I suggest that you just try it with one item and see how it goes. You do not have to accept PayPal or credit cards at first.

If you want to, you can set a starting price on the high side on your first try just to see yourself in print while you are feeling your way around. You can modify the listing a few days later or let it expire.
