I was just wondering  if anyone else has a child or family member born on leap day? DS is a leap day baby (he's 11, but will always be my baby) and sometimes gets mad that he does not have a birthday on the calendar.

Awww!! - I feel bad for him if it upsets him. I don't have experience with this in my family, but I would just remind him that other people "move" their birthday to the weekend all the time, and let him pick his special day each year when you put up the calendar. Treat his chosen day just like a "real" birthday in your house -whatever your tradidtions are.

We were married on the 29th! Sometimes we just celebrate on the 28th. Sometimes we jokingly celebrate from noon on the 28th to noon on the 1st. We figure it averages to the correct time. Maybe he could do the noon - noon thing and stretch his special day to have a nice dinner/balloons/cake/etc. and then a special breakfast the next day?

I have a friend who had her doctor induce labor right after midnight on Feb. 29 because she specifically wanted the baby born that day! It was just a couple of years ago (2004?), so she hasn't had to face that problem yet, but I do understand how he feels. Maybe every 4 years he can have a REALLY special birthday celebration!

My dad's birthday is the 29th. He insists on celebrating on the 28th since his birthday is "the last day of February." We always tease that he should celebrate on March 1 because his birthday is "the day after February 28."

Dad says it was kind of a bummer when he was younger, but now he likes being unique that way. Besides he just turned 67 and loves telling people that he'll be 17 next year (because it will be the 17th time he's actually had a birthday.)

Happy birthday to your DS.

I have a friend who's a leap baby. She always has thought it was very cool. I remember in grade school the teachers made a HUGE deal of her 8th birthday when she turned "2." I know she enjoyed celebrating her "8th" birthday a few years ago. I know I always thought she was really lucky and thought it was great. It's weird to me that anyone would think it "bad" because it was always such a special thing to be born on that day. Maybe he'll change his mind next year if his teachers and friends make a huge deal of it. But probably not at age 12!

We celebrate his birthday with friends on the weekend before his birthday. He knows it is rare to have his birthdate and I'm sure as he gets older he will think it is much cooler than it is now. :cool1: He just get tired of people saying he is only 2

Hi - I'm a Leap Day baby. I was born on February 29 in 1960. Do you or your son know about the Honor Society of Leap Year Day Babies? It's a huge site and worth checking out. leapyearday dot com

I never knew there was such a thing. I'm going to tell him about it.

Thanks
