Le Chefs de France - what a bummer

Was excited to go to Chef de France for months, to try the rotisserie chicken.
Finally yesterday we finally got our chance.

What a disaster it was.

Where do I begin..
our drink order
1 coke
1 water (for a 4yr old)
1 glass of wine

our food order
1. rotisserie chicken w/mashed potatoes, minus the braised tomato (allergic) subsitituted with french fries (waiter repeated order back)

2. french onion soup
angus burger with salad

What we ended up getting is
Rotisserie chicken with a large plate of fries - no mashed potatoes
burger with a large cone of fries - no salad

and still didnt have our drinks

waiter came by told him i was missing my mashed potatoes brought them promptly - which was the only thing that was good there.

my mom didnt say anything about her salad and kept the fries

asked about our drinks

came back with 3 waters in those fancy glasses....UM not good for a 4yr old surprised it didnt break but many close calls of being dropped.

Had to track down our waiter again what we ordered for drinks. No idea if he ever looked at our order, my guess would be no.

The rotisserie chicken - it was chicken with brown gravy on it wasnt tasty at all.
Actually pretty darn gross

Will I go back - nope. Shouldve not have gone and saved the money.

sorry you had a rough time there. We went for lunch and it was wonderful. Did you go for Dinner??? I was thinking about going back for dinner....

Lunch was good. I had the ham and cheese quiche, mom got the ham and cheese sammy, and my sister got the mac and cheese....all were awsome.....Kids got the chicken and pasta.....they ate the chicken...It was just PASTA!!! They brought them a small cup of sauce with it but AT LEAST THEY ATE THE CHICKEN!!!! LOL

On another post I was just asking about what was so great about La cellar?.Now I have not try it,but could it been just a case of waiter, the day, maybe haveing a bad day?.I am up In the air about trying it but just thought I throw that at you, hope the rest of the day was great:goodvibes

I have always had a good experience there. Sounds like you got a really bad server. Maybe someone who was new with no previous experience?? I wonder if you should have grabbed a manager??

I figured he had to be new, I just had to keep correcting the situtation, he quickly fixed his errors. If he wouldve copped an attitude or whatever I wouldve gotten a manager.

I still left a tip since he did try.

I wouldnt go back due to the food - bleh. So disappointed
Sorry but I have had way better rotisserie chicken at a local deli or SuperKmart.

We were there for a late lunch

Chefs used to one of our favorites....not so much anymore. The last two trips the food and service has been subpar.

Thankfully, have had great experiences there recently with delicious food and great service. BUT, just like all Disney restaurants, both food and service quality is inconsistent. I had a rotten exp at LeCellier that I'd rather erase from the memories of that trip while others had great ones. I wish they were more consistent there but they aren't.

Sounds like you had a bad server. We ate dinner there in Sept had Collette as our server who was very attentive and the food was FAb.i had the gruyere mac n cheese, Dh had the Duck, and Dd had pasta and salad.

We just ate at Les Chefs last night (Thursday, Dec 4). One of my daughters got the chicken....it was ok. It's wasn't tasteless, but it wasn't any real defined taste nor very strong flavored. Bland is about as close as I can describe it. THe gravy wasn't much better.

My other daughter had salmon and it was pretty tasteless too.

I had the Filet and it was tiny but wonderful tasting. The kids didn't like the peppercorn sauce that it came with (thankfully, or I'd have been conned out of my steak for either salmon or chicken!). The au gratin potatoes were very good tasting but a bit weird.....parts of it was what I know of as au gratin, that is, thinly sliced potato in a creamy sauce....and parts of it seemed like mashed potato scrambled in. Once I got over the surprise, I figured it was a French thing......and it tasted really good. The top had obviously been put until a flame and was cripsy and delicious.

For dessert I had creme brulee, and was pretty disappointed in it. First of all it was ice box cold, even the lightly crisped topping.

The girls had the chocolate mousse and it was rich and delicious and the tiny bit of fruit that accompanied it was amazingly fresh and delicious. I'm so used to Strawberries that taste like nothing that the fresh strawberry taste seemed almost fake, lol. I so miss growing my own strawberry and raspberries.

I don't regret this meal....but it's not likely one we'll do again. The girls wanted to try it because we don't have anything like it at home and we're studying France this year so that country has been in their mind a lot lately.

We had Escargot as an appetizer and the girls enjoyed that, I did also, even though it seemed much chewier than I remember from other times I've had it. I would have preferred garlic over the basil personally also.

OP isn't talking about LeCellier (Steakhouse in Canada), they had issues at Les Chefs de France. :goodvibes

We had bad service and bad food at Les Chefs as well. The high point for us was the French Onion soup - which was very good.

We won't be rushing back unless we go for just the Soup and perhaps a salad, and don't need a high chair. (Couldn't get a high chair that wasn't broken - they kept trying to convince us that tying our child into the high chair would keep them safe - ended up having to do just that after two people yelled at us that the high chair was fine. Spent the entire meal keeping our son in the chair and retying the straps)

Not being contrary here, but I could understand how someone gets confused when you requested the chicken with mash and fries. It is a little unusual to order two potato-types with an entree. Nevermind the fact that the first language is not English. I know he repeated the order back though.

I was thinking of perhaps trying this restaurant in the future. I don't imagine liking French food (didn't like it in my previous trips to France many years ago), but I have to say the food at Disneyland Paris exceeded my expectations significantly so it may be an option, regardless of your experience which one would hope was just the exception to the rule.

My wife and I went here on our honeymoon (almost 10 years ago) and we liked it so much we booked it twice for our stay this year. I will definitely post something when I get back but I hope our experience will be similar to the one I had 10 years ago. We even put our dinner receipt in our scrapbook because we liked it so much. I'm sorry you did not have such a wonderful time.

we used to love (and I mean love) Chefs de France. One of our favorites. We swore it off about 3 years ago (after DDP went into effect). We haven't been back since. And won't be.

Question for the OP -

After the waiter took your order and turned it into the kitchen, did *he* deliver your meals or did someone else? I'm asking because if he didn't deliver the meals, then the order was not done correctly in the kitchen and your waiter didn't have a chance to see your order wasn't as you ordered it.

More restaurants are having others deliver the meals so the servers can pay more attention to the customers without having to constantly look to see when the food is ready to be delivered. TGI Friday's has done this for years.

Just wondering if it was the kitchen or the waiter who had the orders wrong. I'm thinking the kitchen since the waiter read the order back to you.

We added Chefs to our list for upcoming trip. Hope we aren't dissappointed.

Even though we had a bad experience there, I wouldn't ever tell someone not to try it. I may not recommend it, but there are LOTS of people who love Les Chefs. Hopefully you love it too!

This is a place I used to love many years ago but our last two attempts here have been very disappointing. I'll keep sticking to Bistro upstairs for the time being.
