Le Cellier with kids

Hey gang--- so, we're taking the kids (DD8, DS5) on their first trip to WDW 11/4-11/9. It was a last minute thing that I booked less than 2 months ago--staying at Wilderness Lodge with the DDP. Since booking I've been working almost daily on setting up ADR's, finding slots, tinkering times here and there, etc. So far I have us eating at Akershus (D), Chef Mickeys (D), Whispering Canyon (L), Sci-Fi (L), Crystal Palace (8am B).
So yesterday I stumbled upon an open 5pm dinner slot at Le Cellier that must have been recently released by someone. I grabbed it because from what I read, ADRs there can be extremely hard to come by. My question is, is the food that good and is it also a place the kids will like?

Definitely keep that ADR!

My family ate at Le Cellier when my daughter was 7 and my son was almost 4 and my kids loved it! (and so did DH and I) The food was really great and they especially loved the cheddar cheese soup and their desserts -- the s'mores tower thing and the Chocolate moose.

They still remember the pretzel bread, soup and those desserts and hope to have them again on our trip in November (and they are now 12 and 8!)

MY DS10 and DS6 love it there and we have gone there every year for the last 4 years. My kids are particulary fond of the pretzel sticks served with the other bread before the meal. Also, the kids meal has typical kids stuff on it and the desserts are very good as well. Whenever we go there are always lots of kids there.

It really depends on your kids.

Do they eat the types of foods that are on the kids menu?
I do believe steak is on there.

As for the restaurant itself, it isn't kid oriented. Not to say kids aren't welcome, they are and when we were there the kids we saw seemed to be enjoying themselves.
But it is more of an "adult" atmosphere, not cutsie, or decorated like kids would like.
It is dark, hardly any windows or they are covered as LeCellier means "cellar". So it isn't bright and cheery in there.

Only you know if your kids would like it. If you don't think they would you may could get a babysitter and have dinner yourselves.

We like the place. Our meals were very good and both DH and I are beef/steak eaters, so it fits us fine.

Le Cellier is one of our favorite places to eat!! We haven't taken kids there, but there are always lots of them there and they seem to be enjoying it. You were lucky to get the ressie! Sounds like you're going to have a lot of fun on your trip!

Wow, thanks for the fast responses and good information! Sounds like I should definately keep this reservation-- it will be a nice break from the character meals. Looking forward to the trip. As I said, first time for the kids, and my wife and I haven't been in 12-13 years.

Le Cellier is a great time for the whole family to slow down and eat. The bread sticks to snack on to the steaks are amazing. My daughter is a picky eater and liked the mac n cheese. then the camp fire smore for desert is great and children get a sunday with their meal.

It depends on how your kids are at a restuarant. My 5 year olds is average (not horrible, not great) and we had a great experience. The service was fast. The pretzel bread was a hit, but my kid is a bread kid. Plus we always have something for him to do while we are waiting/eating.

We loved the food and the atmosphere (even with a kid).

The food is usually decent here but we've always had long waits getting seated (and we also eat early) and long waits for our food except one time. It is usually a 2-2.5 hour meal. As long as your kids can sit nicely you should be fine but they really do need to behave well because the tables are VERY close together. The other thing we dealt with is that on the DDP kids only get the normal little scoop of ice cream. On the adult menu however they have a cool smores dessert and cool chocolate "moose" dessert that used to be on the kids menu until the 2nd year of the dining plan so since my kids had the cool desserts before we always ended up having to pay for them to have these out of pocket. At least now my kids are WDW adults so they can have them without paying extra.

I keep hearing how awful the food is at Le Cellier and how much kids seem to hate it. So I'd drop that ADR and find something better. And let me know when you do so I can pick it up.

Yes Yes & Yes keep the ressy. Cheese soup is good enough to make a meal out of with the yummy pretzel bread and the fillets you can cut with a fork. Got my mouth watering.

Mmmm....you guys are making me so hungry!!! We ate there about a year and a half ago when our kids were 5 & 7 1/2, and loved it! Probably their favorite memory from this place has nothing to do with the food, but with the drinks instead. If I remember correctly, we were able to order milkshakes for our drinks. How great is that?! And at lunch, too! It also doesn't hurt that we were carrying a book of Mad Libs in our bag for any long wait times. A couple of Mad Libs, some pretzel bread and a chocolate shake, and you're good to go! It's the first ADR I made this time around for our trip. Enjoy!

Certainly!! We were there in....ummm....Sept 2007 I think. At that time, we had a 5 year old, two year old, and a 5 month old. The children did great, and loved eating in a "cellar".

fine for kids - see my signature - our kids loved it this summer. kids menu is actually very good there - they get a 3 course meal so get the soup included. LC also cranks out some wicked great breadsticks that the kids loved.

The food at LeCellier is excellent. We had a great dining experience at this restaurant. I gave my DS4 my chocolate mousse dessert. It was one of his favorites foods that he had the entire week.

Another vote for Le Cellier...

I didn't believe the hype until I tried it last year, and we now love it! It is on my ADR list for January. We had 4 kids at the table last year, boys ages 12, 9, 9, and 4. We were worried that they would be squirmy and bored by the 'stuffy' restaurant, but they never had a chance to wiggle. The food came out quickly and there was always something in front of them to eat. A parent's dream! A quiet meal. Good food. Nice 'adult' atmosphere, even with lots of kids present.

Of all the character meals (and we've been to LOTS,) the T-Rex, Coral Reef, Garden Grill, Teppan Edo, Sci-Fi, and every other 'kid' centered meal we've been to...this was hands-down THEIR favorite. Go figure.

My 12 year old is still talking about the fact that it took me 3 months to snag this reservation. Him and I both had the filet along with the s'mores dessert. There were lots of kids in the restaurant when we were there, but it was a quiet relaxing atmosphere. i enjoyed every minute of this meal, and hopefully we can go back there again some day!

I would keep it! We just ate there this week and it was really good! I was nervous due to some things I'd read here, but my family and I enjoyed it.

I think what's most important that you keep in mind is this is your trip, too. You have 3 big character meal, all oriented towards your children. You and your wife also need a night to enjoy more grown up food. We have 2 DD ages 9 & 7. They get their fair share of "all about them" but they also know and appreciate when it's "all about mommy & daddy". (And no we don't ship them off to babysitters).

Take little table activites for them if they get bored and enjoy the more relaxed, quiet atmosphere.
