Le Cellier - why so many empty tables??

During Free Dine, so many people make ADR's that they don't keep! I work in MK and my restaurant averaged about 35% no shows every day for Free Dine. The worst day, we had 47% of the ADRs not show up! Granted, that means you can take more walk ins, but it still kills business!

Kills me how people can be inconsiderate or just not mindful. I used to wait on tables (decades ago :rotfl:)and knew that the restaurant staffed it based on reservations. Due to no-shows, it leaves a lot of staff standing around and mind you...these people relied on their tips and not their hourly wage. So to imagine the 47% no show is just infuriating for not only the people trying to make reservations, but for also the restaurant and staff that loses. :furious:

I really think Disney needs to consider a small charge for a no show reservation - otherwise - what's to stop people from making endless reservations and not feeling obligated to show up - some of us would never dream of not showing up instead of canceling our reservation - even if it's canceled at the last minute - but others don't care unless it hits them in the pocketbook - at CG you have to submit a credit card and I would bet they don't have many no shows because of it

I read somewhere that a TA books 3 ADR and let the people decide to eat that day.

LOL. that was me. I'm having a family reunion August 2011 and we decided to hire a TA to handle the trip since it's going to be a large group.

The TA said she always has her large groups book 2 or 3 adr's a night. She claims that it's much better this way than having clients try to figure out where they want to eat 180 days out.

I'm still trying to convince my family other wise. problem is no one wants to believe me over her because she's the "professional" and it's not illegal.

I'll keep you posted.

I do want to say most people who do this are not really selfish. remember, many probably are not aware of the problems it's causes. If you are not a disser (and remember we're probably a small % of overall visitors) you probably are simply thinking hey I paid a lot for this trip, I want to make sure it's the best that it can be. most people don't view having 2 reservations as a big deal.

So now if professional ta's are telling people to do this, you can only imagine.

I'm sure she is probably not the only TA doing this b/c it makes the client feel good they have ADR (especially clients who has never been to Disney and doesn't know this things).
I did read also people using different phone numbers to lock in 2 different ADR's.
I think Disney should require cc for making ADR and if no show charge a fee...when people don't show (other dinners could have used those ADRs) but the servers don't make the money from lack of tips b/c of lack of customers.
I'm glad alot of people do try to do walk ups for meals b/c they might have seats for them.

Please keep us posted how it turns out and thanks for sharing your story.

just going in circles on ths one - no one knows why there were empty spots so conjecture and blame is wasted here
