Ok .. I have to be honest I've only ever been to Le Cellier and that's only one time back in November.

It was a great meal. I was on the DxDDP so I didn't think too much about the price.

I know that both are now Signature restaurants and I am wondering the opinions on each as a steakhouse.

Now, I've heard the Le Cellier has actually fallen a bit since becoming a Signature restaurant, which would be disapointing. However, having never been to the Yachtsman, I don't know which would be best.

Thoughts? Musings?

Dinner, 2 adults

We have never eaten at Le Cellier, BUT we were able to snag a lunch ressie for next month.

Yachtsman on the other hand, was EXCELLENT!
Hubby & I ate there on our honeymoon in dececmber...one of our BEST meals! popcorn::

HIGHLY recommend!

Ate at LeCellier about 10 years ago for my parents' 40th anniversary - we enjoyed it, but I can't speak as to recent quality - weren't able to get a ressie when there in Sept '10. I chose Yachtsman for my "birthday eve" dinner and was really looking forward to it. Food was good overall, although service/atmosphere not as good. I had to send back my appetizer (scallops) because it was cold (obviously sitting for a while) but once corrected was yummy; very good steak too. It was very busy and crowded with a lot more kids than I would have thought for a signature at 7:30 p.m. I expect kids at Disney but not lying in the aisle so you have to step over them to get to your table. Might just have been a bad night?

I've heard about the kid issue at the Yachtsman before because of the family friendly atmosphere of BC & YC.

I'm thinking that Le Cellier may provide a more "adult" atmosphere, mind you my DS10 was just fine there last November.

Right now I have two ressies for dinner on our Day 1. Yachtsman and Le Cellier, three hours apart so I know there is no way I could swing both. LOL maybe I should let DW have a say.. but I'm not too sure. She's pretty much left the steakhouse choice up to me.

I've eaten at both and I think Yachtsman is much better than Le Cellier :thumbsup2. Le Cellier was good, but I wasn't overly impressed. Plus I like the atmosphere of Yactsman better :).

We have eaten at both LC and Y and have had great service and great meals. DH prefers LC, but I think it has more to do with the atmosphere and location than the food

yachtsman by far. we've had numerous great experiences there. we tried le cellier twice and both were the worst service and lousy meals... never again for us.

I have also eaten at both and love both restaurants.

In my opinion, it is easier to get dressed up and go to dinner at the Yachtsman than it is to go to Le Cellier (assuming you are going for a special occasion).

If you are just going to have a great meal, you won't be disappointed with either.

I'm not sure if Le'Cellier has "fallen" since going signature as the op mentioned, I'm sure it stepped it up a bit (one would think). With that said, I was not a big fan of Le'Cellier from my one and only dining experience; cramped atmosphere, poor locations for tables, rude manager (for us she was), and an average quality steak equaled big let down for me. I'm also not buying the bunk Disney is putting out with this new menu. IMHO it is nothing more than a "tweaked" menu, and I'm sure not drinking the Kool-Aid that Canadian AAA beef is so much better than what they served before.

As for Yachtsman, we had a better quality steak, excellent service, and not as cramped as LC. Now that Le'Cellier is a signature, Yachtsman would be the better atmosphere, the better steak, and the better value (my opinion). Judging from what I have read on the DIS and other forums and also going on the WDW reservation site and not finding it difficult to get an ADR for LC, many share the same opinion. :)

All the bad comments I've seen about signature Le Cellier are from people who haven't been there and have no plans on going there. All the actual reviews point out that the food has improved, and if you liked the atmosphere before you'll like it now.

Here's the real deal with why people don't want to go to LC for dinner. Most of the people who go there liked it because it was a steakhouse for 1-credit on the DDP. I'd go even further to say a lot of these people ordered almost the exact same thing: cheddar soup (which is tasty with the pretzel bread), mushroom filet, and a dessert (maple crème brûlée, chocolate moose, etc). For dinner, these people would still probably order the same thing, but now it would cost twice as much on the DDP, making dinner a worse value than it was.

That doesn't have anything to do with the food quality at all. I've had three dinners there since the change, and all had great food and service. The menu provides more options than Yachtsman for non-steak fans (I loved the duck, cod, and salmon), while Yachtsman is mostly big, plain steaks with some sauce and potato. Le Cellier still has great steak options, including the filet, rib-eye, and New York Strip, but if you want a porterhouse, only Yachtsman has that (and a lot of people seem to order it).

So it really depends on what you're looking for. Yachtsman might be a better choice if you want a big piece of steak. However, I find Le Cellier's menu to be more interesting. For the record, before the menu change I wasn't a fan of LC at all, and I'll openly say I had a terrible lunch there. But I really think the food has improved a lot for dinner. People just don't want to give it a chance, and that's understandable. I've had mediocre meals at Yachtsman, Flying Fish, and Citricos, so I'm reluctant to go back to those places despite their popularity here.

Here's my pics of LC dinner:

I actually wasn't too impressed with Yacthsman when I went. The only time I was at Le Cellier I loved it but that was before it went signiture.

My problem with Yacthsman wasn't the food but the service. Apparently they somehow messed up our steak so it took forever to come out. They didn't tell us this until after it had already been way to long and some that had ordered after us got their food. Then they decided to give us two sides to make up for it... but they didn't let us pick. So we had Mushrooms and something else I forget what... but neither were things either of us would eat.

Then the server seemed offended that we didn't try the sides. I would much rather they let us pick one side that we would like then give two free ones that wouldn't make us any happier about having to wait.

Thank you much for the insights.

We have several restaurants booked for our trip in May:

Yachtsman/Le Cellier, Kona, 50's PT, Cali Grill, Citricos, Jiko, Raglan Road, Tutto Italia.

So it's really a matter of the steakhouse really. My DW's bday is the night we're going to Citricos.

I'm kind of leaning towards Yachtsman simply because we've never tried it, and we've heard that it can be a great meal.

It wasn't an option but I would say Shula's has the best steak at the World.

Presently we are looking at the Deluxe Dining Plan ... which shula's isn't part of.

However, the DxDDP may be tossed as we don't think we need to have 5 large signature meals during our stay.

I've eaten at LeC many times, Yachtsman just once. I have always had my beef cooked to perfection at LeC. Not so at Yachtsman. I was there with a group...about 8 of us. The person next to me ordered their beef well done, I ordered mine med rare. Well, my plate was the last to come out, others had started eating by this time. When I cut into my beef, it was like a hocky puck. I thought that they had given me the person's next to me, but no, her's was cooked as she had asked for...well done.
Our server was fantastic. But since everyone had already started eating by this time, I really didn't want to ask for a new piece of beef. They would have been eating dessert by the time my order came!!
But, based on that, I doubt I'll be back.
I've had excellent beef at both Flying Fish and Coral Reef as well.

We have dinned at both restaurants, most recently we had dinner at Le Cellier to try the restaurant in its new signature status (we had been there before when it was a one credit restaurant). We have eaten at every signature restaurant at WDW, except V & A and based on our experience this week do not consider Le Cellier to be signature dining. The tables are still close together with no table cloths and unattractive painted wooden tables. My mushroom filet was good, but not outstanding. DBF's strip steak was on the dry side and dense (as opposed to tender). I enjoy having a salad as an appetizer and the Caesar Salad I had was practically flavorless, the least impressive one that I've had at WDW. We are not on a dining plan. We have TiW so meal credits were not an issue, but for those who are on the plan I think that Yatchman's is a much better use of two credits. Looking at the comparison from a money point of view Yatchman's is also a much better value. We will not return to Le Cellier.

I do like the Filet at LC and we really enjoyed YM on our last trip.

But, as a previous poster stated neither can hold a candle to the quality and taste at Shula's.

If you are not on a DDP, I would suggest heading over to Shula's - the atmosphere alone is worth an extra $100. They are also now part of TIW!

Worst dining experience and food I have ever had at Disney at Yachstman a couple of weeks back. My account of it is 'somewhere' on these boards.

I would never relinquish 2 credits for it...
