Le Cellier, the Whipping Boy (shortsheeted/shortsighted?) of the Dis Dining Boards?

At one time we loved it, but now we fall firmly into the "not hated just over rated" camp. The last time we truly enjoyed a meal there was in 2006. In 2007 we had terrible service and terrible food - we attributed it to the fact that we were one of the last seatings of the night but that really shouldn't change anything. Couldn't bring ourselves to go back until early this year, at which point we didn't find it terrible, just still not up to par. It was decent, but the other favorites at Epcot provided better food at a better price.

Hmmm...what's with picking apart posts on the boards? Weren't you the one that wanted to stir the pot in regards to opinions on AK? Everyone has a right to their own opinion - even if it's not the same as yours.

What's with picking apart posts? Is this a discussion board? If we can't reflect on what other people are writing, then what's the point? Like AK, I've seen Le Cellier bashed left and right and I'm curious as to why. So, here it is. If you think i'm "stirring the pot" then just don't reply. Easy peasy and have a magical day!

We like Cellier (especially the unique items such as the cheddar cheese soup, icewine and Unibroue beers etc). That being said, it's does not have particularly creative menu...it's a steak place catering to people who only want comfort food and that's the disconnect for me...if I want a steak I can buy it locally and throw it on the Weber anytime - only the filet at V&A's and the NY strip at FF have made me reconsider my view. At WDW I do not want to eat items that are so boring. Give me CG suishi, the Blue Zoo shortribs/scallop appetizer, the Cave margaritas, WPE breakfast pizza etc. anytime.

ITA. My family just isn't the target demographic for LC, I guess. We don't eat steak when we go out to eat (or when we are home, either)- we prefer ethnic cuisine or 'fancy' food. Makes it nice- while everyone else is falling over themselves to get a coveted LC ADR, we are happy to hit Marrakesh or Tokyo Dining.

I am having a tough time deciding on ADRs for our November trip- we are traveling with friends who aren't adventurous eaters at all. The places that are our normal "must-dos" won't cut it with them. They would probably enjoy LC- we are going to have dinner together this week to decide on a few restaurants we can both enjoy.

The only reason I avoid Marrakesh is because $20+ for a plate of couscous and chicken is highway robbery (and it's better, and more affordably priced at the Tangierine Cafe). And Tokyo Dining, well, I eat enough Japanese food back home.

I like reading different people's opionions, it helps me make decisions. So I like your discussions/pot stirring posts. I'm just curious as to your obsession about things getting whipped! :scared1::scared: :rotfl:

I read that Le Cellier will now require 2 TS credits for those on the dining plan. Good..now I might be able to get a reservation there!

Only for dinner; lunch is rumored to still only be 1 TS.

At this time any speculation as to signature status for Le Cellier including the time this change might take place and the 1 TS for lunch, 2 TS for dinner thing is strictly rumor, as none of it has been confirmed yet by Disney.

We have been going to Disney since 2004 and I hope I never have to miss my favorite meal on property. Filetw/ mushroom risotto.Trying it for lunch time( 11:30) this year because it is a bit intense to get into now, waits for reservation is usually the longest wait of our trip and with young ones for dinner time usually is not the best scene.
I am not sure how I feel if it goes signature.

We had an ADR for Le Cellier last year for our honeymoon, but friends of ours who live in Orlando cautioned us against the restaurant...and instead we had a fabulous dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe (with all of its antics and shouts for ketchup :rotfl: )

That being said, I would love to eat at Le Cellier sometime just so that we can experience it ourselves. The cheddar cheese soup sounds delish! :thumbsup2

This is a great example of how everyone has different tastes, likes/dislikes, etc. We went to WCC in 2008 at the suggestion of many here on the DIS, and you could not pay us to go back. DH got sick on the food, there were no antics (which would not have swayed us one way or the other) and the service was non-existent. I'm glad we tried it, but we won't be going back.

And the cheddar cheese soup, in our opinion, is :worship:

:lmao: Maybe scapegoat would be less... whippy? I'm not trying to stir the pot though! If I walked into someone's thread all excited to say "Oh, so you're the troublemaker...", is the OP supposed to respond amicably to that?

We go to LeCellier every trip - we've been lucky and have been able to get reservations every time - we go because it's good, better than most and def the best in Epcot IMHO. Would I pay 2 dining credits for it - I am not sure yet.

I think this says it all. I'm waiting to see just how popular it remains after it changes to 2TS credits, as it's strongly rumored to happen in 2011. I think it's popular because of the value it gives for 1 TS credit. I think once it goes to 2 TS credits, we may see some changes. I'll still go since I seldom use the DDP and mostly use my TiW card.

We ate at Le Cellier in 8/08. It was good not the best steak I ever ate, but good. The pretzel bread is great though. The menu is a bit limited. The steak is defintely not as good as I had @ Narcoseeses the same week in 2008. If it goes to 2 credits I will not be returning. I do have an adr there in 2 and a half weeks!

But do you think the Hollywood Brown Derby is worth 2 credits? I think it's a nice bistro, on par with Le Cellier and Chefs de France. But Signature? And I've never seen that place elbow to elbow. Granted, it's the size of the Grand Canyon in comparison...

I meant no offense to be sure.:flower3:

I just find it odd to question others about their opinions...especially on these boards when you find such a huge range of opinions on the same restaurant or even parks. I see people that LOVE LeCellier everyday on here as well as those who claim it's overrated. As for it being a whipping boy...I don't think so. That I'd reserve for Hollywood and Vine or some other such restaurant that gets absolutely no love at all.:confused3 (Well deserved at that, from the sounds of it).

Sorry for the misunderstanding. But there seems to be such a consensus (or was, until my post anyway) of antipathy toward AK, and I felt that contrarian "opinions" were sometimes fanatically negative and arrogant. I see the same thing toward Le Cellier. In the oddest of places. Again, just my observation. I don't intend for someone else to write "Hollywood and Vine, the Whipping Boy of the Disboards?" because that seems like a very different thesis than I'm trying to communicate.

It's not just opinion, it's a collective negative, a blanket antipathy. And I'm curious to see, in one thread, just what people think. Rather here than in most seemingly EVERY other thread on TS dining at Walt Disney World.

I like Le Cellier and I don't think it is overrated at all. Why? Because it is the ONLY thing my husband asks to do when we are on vacation. To me, that is MY PRIORITY and the fact he can go there because of my due diligence makes me very happy and him as well. He loves the filet (and I do too!) and he loves the atmosphere and the really nice servers. I really like Le Cellier too so don't get me wrong, but if it makes my loved ones happy, then it makes me happy too ;)

I just heard from my Disney TA that LeCellier in fact will be a 2TS for dinner (and remain a 1TS for lunch) beginning March 1. She said it has been confirmed by Disney.
