DH and I dined at Le Cellier on Friday, November 4th. Our ADR was for 7:30 and we showed up at about 6:45. The CM at the entrance told us that we could be seated within the next 5 or 10 minutes. He also asked if we had any special dietary considerations or food allergies. We told him no food allergies, & that I am vegetarian and would be ordering the vegetarian sampler.

We had walked into Le Cellier once before and left almost immediately when I saw that the one vegetarian entree involved mushrooms (yuck!). My impression at that time was of a very dark (and a bit claustrophobic) room. This time, the restarant was pleasantly lit, a bit dark but with pools of light from the chandeliers. The walls are of a kind of putty-colored stucco, designed to look like stuccoed-over brick or stone. There were fairly subtle maple-leaf designs throughout the restaurant, from the carpet to the sconces. The decor was pretty and pleasant.

The server noted I was vegetarian and told me everything on the menu that was vegetarian, and that I was welcome to just order side dishes if I desired. I ordered the vegetarian sampler, which included stir-fry veggies with Udon Noodles, Vegetable Spring Roll, Cucumber Salad, and Mushroom Pot Stickers for which I substituted a side order of Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes. I also had a glass of Buena Vista Chardonnay, Happiest Celebration On Earth, Carneros '03.

DH had the signature entree, which was a 14 ounce strip steak with Roasted Garlic, Grape Tomato, Frisee', Roasted Yukon Potatoes, and finished with a Veal Demi-Glace. He had a glass of Cotes du Rhone.

DH thought his steak was just OK. He admits that he usually eats sirloin or filet and that strip steak is *supposed* to be more firm to the tooth than his usual preferences. He is very, very particular about steak, though, as we have a great (and relatively inexpensive) local steak place, plus DH is pretty expert at grilling his own steaks. :flower:

I LOVED my cream cheese mashed potatoes. The vegetable spring roll was pretty good but I swear I could taste some mushrooms in it (does every vegetarian meal HAVE to have mushrooms, tofu, or a Boca Burger in it?? :goodvibes ). The cucumber salad was OK (I'm not a cucumber fan) and the veggies in the noodle stirfry were way too underdone. Next time I think I'd order TWO sides of the cream-cheese mashed potatoes, the spring roll, and grilled asparagus.

We had an enjoyable meal. The service was very pleasant and efficient. While we will order different menu items when we return, we will definitely return.

Enjoyed reading your review ~ Thanx for posting.

I'm a vegetarian who will be dining with three carnivores (DH and DS's) in June. We've never tried LeCellier, so I enjoyed reading your review. Thanks!

Nice to see hey were so accomodating to your vegetarian preferences!! Good to keep in mind when other posters request spots that have a good vegetarian selection.
