I was able to book a last-minute reservation at Le Cellier. I thought the girl at the concierge desk at the Boardwalk was going to faint, as she said she had never succeeded in getting a "day-before" reservation.
I will save my negative comments for the end.
We arrived for our 5:50 reservation and found the place already crowded. After a short wait we were shown in to the wonderfully intimate dining room. What a rarity for Disney!
Our waiter was Barry, who provided perhaps the best service we have received at any Disney restaurant, and I've eaten at plenty. For example, when I asked him to leave my wife's wine glass on the table because I wanted to split my glass of chardonnay with her, he just poured us each half a glass. We had two other glasses of wine, and all were quite good.
My wife described her ceasar salad as perfect and her mushroom filet was absolutely perfectly cooked and really good. My salmon was good as well, and was served over a delicious risoto. The children had the cheddar cheese soup as an appetizer, which we tasted. Not sure I would want a great big bowl of the stuff, but it was good. Barry allowed my daughter to order the Beefaroni from the "combo" section of the menu as her entree, and order the rest of her meal from the a la carte section.
Now for the bad. The shrimp cocktail I ordered wasn't too tasty. I expected at least some "ketchup" type sauce, but perhaps should have read the menu a little more closely. Also, the shrimp were quite small and a bit overdone. I do not recommend.
I found the selection of desserts to be pretty dreadful. The only "real" dessert was the creme brulee. Surely Canadians have better desserts than these! I ordered the "Chocolate on Chocolate Canadian Whiskey Cake," expecting something gooey with a whiskey sauce that would have a real "bite." What I got was a plain and boring piece of chocolate cake that had nothing at all to do with whiskey. My best advice is to not order dessert at Le Cellier.
In some ways I was a victim of the meal plan here. If paying cash I would have ordered the ceasar salad but went for the more expensive shrimp cocktail because it was "free." I usually don't order dessert unless it is something that knocks my socks off, but I got something because it was "free." The shrimp cocktail and chocolate cake are pretty lousy items that ought to be taken off the menu, but I never would have ordered them were it not for the meal plan.
The bottom line for me is that next time at Le Cellier I'll enjoy the great service, wonderful ambiance, delicious wine, a ceasar salad and a top-notch entree. I'll skip the dessert.
