Le Cellier ADR for 4--What if I show up with an extra 4 year old

Can only find lunch at the Le Cellier for 4. We have a party of 5 (3 adults and 2 children). What do you think will happen when I show up with an extra child not listed on the ADR?

Or they may just pull up an extra chair. If there is room.

How old are the children? Can you squeeze one in in a high chair?

We did exactly that -- I made the reservations for 8 of us and at the last minute my BIL decided to make the trip with us, so that I had to change all of our existing reservations. When I called dining to change them, CRO told me they could change some of the reservations but not others and that I should change it when I get to my hotel or at the restaurant. We had 7 adults and 2 babies (they were 2 years old, one month shy of 3). Our reservations at Le Cellier was towards the end of the trip and one of the babies would not sit in her seat while we were eating; she sat in her mother's lap everytime. So... when we went to the restaurant, she just sat in her mother's lap again! The host at LeCellier was bit put out, but I explained to him what CRO told me and he said okay and accommodated us.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do! All of us thought that LeCellier was the best meal that we had all week!!

The extra person will be my 4 year old who eats like a bird and she will probably sit in her mothers lap anyway. I guess I won't sweat it.

Just keep in mind that it's a really small restaurant and the tables are practically on top of each other. And it is virtually always fully booked.

Don't want to tell you what to do. If it were me, though, I wouldn't do it because of the way the restaurant is set up. And because it's wildly expensive, and I'm selfish...if I'm eating something that costs that much, I don't want my little one sitting on my lap! Mean mom...

If they seat you at a booth, they may not have a problem pulling up and extra chair to the end of the table. It is a pretty crowded place though, so the child may have to sit on a lap or squeeze between two people in a booth. I'm sure they'll help to try and make it work!

Because of our numbers for this upcoming trip (6 - 4 adults, 1 child, 1 baby) and how booked the place always is, they told us they absolutely couldn't accomodate us unless we split up into 2 tables. I am not sure if they will be accepting of an additional person???

Pulling up an extra chair probably would not work due to fire codes (have to have the aisles a certain width). You can try it but you might have to wait a while until a table for a party of your new size opens up. And with LeCellier, that could be a while.

This is what we were told by reservations. We have a party of 5 (4 adults 1 child) and they had no tables. I asked about a table of 4, which they had, and said I was willing to have my 3 y/o sit on my lap. They said it didn't matter, she still counted as a person and they couldn't do it because of fire codes.

What I meant is that last trip we had a party of 6 and had one ADR for our group. We actually sat at 2 tables pushed together but it was still one ADR. This time around, they said they couldn't accomodate us unless we made 2 ADR's and split our group into 2 tables. I would think that this meant that they didn't have the ability to accomodate 6 people together, just like the OP was told that they couldn't accomodate 5 so trying to bring the 4 yr-old in to the table for 4 would likely not be allowed.

The difference is that they don't have tables that fit just 5 people - you're at a 6 topper anyways. Just like tables for 3 don't exist; it's a 4 topper. So adding a person to an odd numbered party is easy - you already have the right size table.

The OP has a party of 4, booked at a 4 topper, and wants to go to a 6 topper table. LeCellier could, technically, turn them away. The place is too small to just stick at a chair at the end so they would have to wait for a 6 topper to become available and take it away from another party - or push back another party of 5/6 from the table they had reserved.

In some restaurants, there is plenty of space to move around and add chairs but LeCellier is small and have fire codes that have to be enforced.

OP - I'd show up and give it a whirl, but don't be surprised if they turn you away or have a long wait for you. Never know =)

Just like tables for 3 don't exist; it's a 4 topper. So adding a person to an odd numbered party is easy - you already have the right size table. =)

There actually are tables for 3 at the restaurants. They are against the walls with 3 chairs on the remaining free sides.
I agree you have two options, call and see if you can add one, or show up and take the chance of not being able to use your ADR with an extra person.
La Cellier is a little different because it is a small place and tables close together. We have eaten there every visit, with a different number of guests each time and no way could we have added 1 more person at the table.
