The hubster has been wanting a new TV for a while now. I've taken the hint, as he will routinely pull out sales fliers and say 'So and so has a flat screen for x amount." So I told him that we'd use some tax return money and buy one.

Anyway, I am the techie gaget guru of our family. The hubster knows nothign else than "it's a flat screen." He doesn't understand the specs and what does what. I have to admit it's a bit foreign to me too. I see things like 1080p (how's that different from 720p which are cheaper), 120hz (versus 60hz), HDMI ports, PC port, USB port.

Aside from setting a price, what should I be looking for in a TV. So far the techie in me says I want 1080p, 120 hz and as many ports that one can have. Am I going overboard?

1080p is the only way to go. I have had both 720p and 1080p and there is a good difference. I don't know about your hubby, but I watch a lot of sports (in fact as I type this I am watching the Ravens vs. Pats game) and 120htz is the only way to go if he does.

60 htz will make a ball look bas when its thrown. In baseball you the screen won't be able to keep up with the ball. Its just the best way to go.

Thanks. The hubster is a sports nut and school coach, so the difference in pic quality will matter. It will also matter to me. At forst I was along the lines of "we really don;t need a new TV" but then we were atthe in-laws over the holidays where my FIl bought himself a new LCD HDTV and I could see the smallest beads of sweat on a hockey player during a game we were watching. That's when I mentioned to the hubster that we'd get a new TV.

I'm intrested in all the possiblities I could do with all of the HDMI ports. I just learned alst night I can stream Netflix through my Wii. OMG! I have serious decluttering to do in our computer room, but wait until I get my wireless router set up.
