LCD display/view finder question

We bought a Canon S3 camera right before we left to go on our Disney cruise last week. While taking a picture without the flash during "The Golden Mickey's" the LCD display all of a sudden turned almost a ghostly white. When we tried to take pictures from that point on you couldn't really see the subject/object of what you were trying to take a picture of. It was the same when looking into the view finder while trying to take a picture. We have read the book and cannot figure out how to fix this problem. Has this ever happened to anyone else or does anyone know what to do to fix it so that you actually see what you're taking a picture of? We took the camera to Shutter's to see if maybe they knew what was going on and I belive the photographer I spoke with was A.G. and he said that it was just in the display but the actual picture comes out looking normal (he took a picture and downloaded it to the computer there and showed me that the picture color was normal). The rest of the cruise we delt with not really being able to see what we were taking pictures of...:headache: Can anyone help?

Take it back to where you bought it if possible, or call Canon for warranty repair. That is not normal from anything I know of that model series. I had a S1 and have a S2.
