I came to the forum today to ask about the Disney Soda Shoppe. Someone else had beat me to it and it doesn't really sound like a place we'd want to visit. $8.00 for a scoop of ice cream is crazy.

So, we will be arriving about 9:30am on a Sunday and driving to Mariposa. Any recommendations for lunch, which would be about an hour and a half or so outside of Los Angeles? I've never heard of the In and Out someone mentioned. Is that like a McDonald's or Burger King? Whataburger or Sonic?

Thanks in advance!

Where is Mariposa?

In-and-out is like a McDonald's only they have a limited menu and people here in SoCAl rave about the food.

I love the burgers but hate the fries. The shakes are really good. It is a chain.

My guess is Mariposa would be near Yosemite?

Bakersfield is 2 hours north of Los Angeles, and we usually stop there for a bite. You should get off on California Street for some eateries there. 2 hours north of Bakersfield is Fresno, and from there you head to Mariposa.

In & Out is a burger place. There is no Whataburger here. :)

If you want to eat before you get to Bakersfield, you might want to stop at Gorman. That is past Magic Mountain, and in an area we call the Grapevine. It is up in the hills before you go down to the flat land of Central Valley & on to Bakersfield.

That's quite a drive - LAX to Mariposa - maybe you would be better off flying into a northern California airport like Sacramento, Oakland, or San Jose. I figure that would cut 2-3 hours off of your drive.

Yes, but we are ending the trip in Anaheim, so we felt like it would be better to make that long drive on day 1 instead of frantically trying to get to the airport on time, doing it on the day we flew home. We are covering quite a bit of ground.

Day 1 - LAX to Mariposa
Day 2 - YARTS bus to Yosemite - 2 nights there using their transportation
Day 4 - YARTS back to rental car and then on to San Francisco - 2 nights there
Day 6 - San Francisco to Monterey
Day 7 - Monterey to Anaheim - 4 nights there
Day 11 - fly home

Thanks! I'll put it on the list to stop in Bakersfield for lunch. We'll be wanting to stretch our legs by then.

How far out of Los Angeles will be get before we start seeing the snowy mountains or are there just mountains everywhere? I've only been to San Diego/Coronado and then San Francisco to San Luis Obispo.
