It appears the drive from LAX to Disneyland is about 40 mins, per mapquest. My question is, is is a fairly easy drive?
Is it clearly marked like MCO to WDW?
and I hate to ask this but I have to....do you go through any "not very nice" neighbourhoods?
I know OC is closer but price right now is about twice as much, and LAX appears to be the cheapest.

Thanks for any info.

Just get on the 105 Freeway just outside LAX, then drive down till it merges with the 605 Freeway, then take that to the merge with the 5 Freeway and head south Anaheim, or you could take the 405 freeway down to the Garden Grove Freeway, and get off at Harbor Boulevard and head north to Disneyland. It just depends on the traffic situation on each road.

If you are renting a car, get a GPS. It's about $10.00 per day but then it tells you the route and if you miss a turn, it immediately recalculates to get you back in the right direction so you would not get lost in a strange area of town. We did this last week when we went and now would not travel without it. Also, I did not notice any bad areas but you are mostly on the freeway.

There are multiple ways to get to DLR from LAX and none are clearly marked as LA is a huge metro area and DLR is only a small part of it. The freeways are right there within a mile of LAX which you will take all the way to DLR. Whether or not you are in bad neighborhoods - depends on which way you go - is not important because you will be on freeways and will not go through them.

I personally would take a different route than others here on this thread based on familiarity and my experience with traffic. I do not think there is any one best way to go. The main thing if possible is try not to drive it during rush hour. :)

My first recommendation would be to take the Disneyland Express bus, which drops off at DLH and GCH and connects with a local bus to get to other hotels.

If you do need to rent a car I'd recommend avoiding the 405 and use the 105/605/91/5 route.

Here are some directions I put together w/a map on how to get to the Disneyland Resort: http://www.maryjomellado.com/lax_to_dlr.htm

If you want to stop at a grocery store, there is a very nice Ralphs about a mile down the road from the LAX Airport. As you leave the rental cars, go on Sepulveda south. The Ralphs is on the corner of Sepulveda & Mariposa (before you get to El Segundo Blvd).

It will be on the right-side. There are also a couple of gas stations if you want to gas up before returning the car - El Segundo is a very nice city, and safe, as cities go.

Note that the drive is 40 minutes at "normal" traffic. If you go early in the morning or from 5pm-7'ish pm it will take more like an hour to an hour & a half.

We just did it last month & used a GPS. The route is took us was quick, easy & I do not recall being in any bad areas. It took us approx 45 min but traffic was moving really well.

On the way back last December when we had to gas up the rental car, hubby hadn't asked for the closest gas station (or directions to get back), so after missing the proper exit, we took the next and found a gas station. It....wasn't too nice. There were people on the off ramp selling t-shirts for a concert that night...it was after dark by that time, so a strange time to see people on an off ramp...

For our two recent trips, we just took Grayline.

We drove from LAX to DLH just a few weeks ago during afternoon rush hour and it was actually a breeze. We took 105 to 110 to 91 to I5. The key is to get in the HOV lane as soon as you're on 91 - then you never need to get out of it. There's a dedicated HOV lane ramp to get on I5 South from 91 East (just keep left at the sign), and there's a dedicated HOV lane off ramp from I5 South to Disneyland Drive (again, keep left at the sign).

I'd post a Google Maps link, but I'm not allowed to here yet. Google Maps does show the 2 ramps I described though, and you can even see the signs in Street View.
