Hi... I did a search and the post I found was 2 1/2 years old.

Anyway, does anyone recomend renting a car at LAX and driving to DL?

We are flying in on thursday evening and back out on saturday evening, so a quick trip. I priced a shuttle (some car company, not super shuttle) and it was $56 (not including tip) each way... I can defintely rent a car cheaper than $100 for 2+ days.

But can I manage the drive? How bad is it? How complicated and what about gas prices?

Any advice?

Just a bump, I need to book a shuttle or a car... I am not sure a car is worth the headache.. but would like opinions.

Hi,
I asked a few weeks ago re the shuttle versus taxi from LAX to Dl. The Airport Bus recommended is around $50 for 2 adults return. They did say it was not too luxurious and the Supershuttle can be quicker. We are in California for 21 days and our first 3 are at DL. We don't want to drive or have a car for the 3 days we are at Dl. Some people said the freeway could be very busy if you were arriving around the rush hour.

Well, how do you feel about potential gridlock on an unfamiliar freeway. The 405 (freeway near LAX) is usually very crowded and slow. If you are comfortable with driving in bumper to bumper traffic, you should be fine. I don't usually take the 405 to Disneyland, but I don't think the drive is particularly complicated. My only concern would be your comfort level with traffic. But depending on how late you arrive on Thursday evening, you could potentially miss most of the traffic. Saturday traffic can be hit and miss in the area. Public transportation in the LA area is not very good, so unless you are staying near Disneyland and have no plans to venture very far, you might enjoy having the rental car.

Sorry to be so vague, it is really a personal decision based on your comfort level.

Good luck,
Jennifer

About gas prices, where I live in LA it is about $2.25/gal (give or take a quarter -- I have a baby and don't pay attention like I should!)
