LAX Advice

I don't think it has been mentioned yet but it will take you a good hour from leaving the airport to getting into your rental. All the Car rental companies at LAX are offsite you you will face a wait for a shuttle bus, the drive itself and another wait when you get there.

Also the pat downs are generally security staff upon entering the aircraft - not Customs upon leaving. We were patted down (including children 14,11 and 7) on every leg of one trip. No massive inconveniece.

Immigration was fine for us in Sept. The lines were a little long, and we got moved into the US citizens line which was faster. Friendly customs man asked if we had brought him Timtam biscuits. He then told a joke putting on a fake Aussie accent (we are Kiwis) and we didn't quite get the joke, but laughed along anyway. Was light hearted, and not stressful. Didn't have pat downs, at any US airport (LAX, Denver, Wichita, Atlanta, Chicago and Orlando). Husband had to be Xray scanned once, but I didn't at all.

Took a while to leave LAX and get a rental car. Don't know if I'd like to drive to San Diego after the flight. We drove to Santa Monica and then 1.5 hours to eastern inland LA to stay by friends after our flight and the drive was long!

We went through LAX no problems. We got moved to the shorter line with out two kids aged 3 and 4 at the time. I am a little worried about our next trip, making it through and getting on another flight is 3 hours.
