This is all hypothetical at the moment, but if you were going to work in Lawrenceville, where would you choose to live? We would probably prefer to be farther out in a rural area, but within 20-30 min of L-ville. Which direction would you go--out toward Athens or north toward Winder? Somewhere else? We have to be within decent driving distance of good medical care(pulmonologist, cardiologist, good CCU). I don't necessarily want to be out 25 miles from the nearest Publix, I'm just looking for less traffic. We currently live in Cobb County, so I know nothing about the northeast sector of metro Atlanta. Help me out? :confused3

Athens Regional and Gwinett Medical Center are both top notch medical facilities. Winder not as good. I used to work EMS in the area and have been hospitalized in both hospitals. As far as Area to live in live in a small rural town 30 miles out of athens and love it. Great school system etc. You can pm me for more info.

I grew up in Johns Creek (it was Alpharetta then!) and have lived in Gwinnett County since I got married in 2002. We started in Duluth and eventually moved further & further out to Sugar Hill and now to Dacula, which we love. The schools are EXCELLENT, the parks/recreation/library facilities are amazing, and we have anything and everything we could ever want in terms of shopping & amenities. As a former GCPS teacher, it was important for us to stay in the county for the schools, but we wanted to be as far out as possible. Gwinnett Medical is great, but Emory Johns Creek is fairly close too. We looked in the Suwanee area (Peachtree Ridge cluster), but when we moved in 2007 housing prices were so inflated, so we chose to move further out to get a bit more house for less money. For schools, stay out of Lawrenceville! We are in Mill Creek cluster and would also recommend Dacula, Mountain View, Archer. I don't know much about Barrow or their schools...that's a little too far out for me! Let me know if you have any particular school/subdivision questions!

Thanks. right now we're in the information gathering stage. There is a possibilty(long shot) that Christian might be place in Lawrenceville. DD17 is in her senior year, so we can't move yet. So we'd be commuting over to see him for about a year(if this takes place.) Once she's in college, however, we'll be free to move wherever we want,so we'll want to be closer to Christian.

Christian is in his last year of middle school now--HS in 2011, where he will stay until he turns 22. But he would not be living with us, he'd be in a group home and go to whichever school can serve him(severe/profound mental impairement.) I just don't want to live in a busy suburb. I'm sick of the traffic in Marietta and I long to move just a little farther out.

If I lived on that side of the metro area and wanted to work in Lawrenceville, I would choose Flowery Branch or Gainesville. Nice and rural with conveniences still close by including hospitals, etc.

Come over here to Flowery Branch GA. ♥ my DH woks in Duluth, well is right next to L'ville and we love it here. We used to live in Gwinnet county but it gotten so ugly there, too much crime compare it to Hall County ♥ Flowery Branch is so quiet and nothing ever happens here,( bad stuff) we love it, the schools are great, the people are awesome :woohoo: we are very close to the lake ♥

Hey there,
We moved from L'vlle 5 years ago and came north up to Jackson County--as a LOT of other Gwinnett families have done! Got away from the craziness of living near Discover Mills Mall, and now live out here w/ the cows. :) We are very happy. We could be just as happy in Winder, Jefferson, Watkinsville--any of the smaller towns. When we first got here, no nearby Publix--but now there is one-and a Kroger not too far off. We haven't heard great things about the Winder Barrow Hospital either, but Gw. Med. is just about 30 minutes away. Love the people, the schools, the small town life...
PM me if you want to ask more!
ETA--I also think Flowery Branch/Hall County would be a good optiion, but I'm not quite as familiar w/ it.
