So happy to see this board. Last year I planted lavendar and it's grown twice as tall as original. Now it looks a little a little scraggily. Should I prune it back now? If so, how far down should I cut? I see growth on all of the stems.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Lavender and russian sage (both woody perennials) really seem to do better with an aggressive "haircut" at the beginning of the growing season. It encourages new bushy growth. I generally just lop the plant off - leaving no more than 6 inches of the old growth on the plant. I do this with almost all my perennials plants - usually in the very early spring in anticipation of the spring emergence.

Happy gardening. :)

Dixie right a good hair-cut. :)

I think I cut too much off of mine...hasn't been doing real well, about the same each year...:(
