Laur’s, Andy and bump do LA and Vegas, baby – Day 16

Laur’s – 29
Andy – 29
Bump – 14 weeks

Saturday 5 April 2008

We were up at 8 am for our final day in California. I decided I would go get the coffee this morning and of course when I got there it was not in the usual place. Luckily I had been talking to another guest in the lift and she knew someone to ask about the coffee which for some reason on this morning was in the tower lobby. Whilst we were getting coffee I got her to explain to me about the different milks which have always confused me. She in turn told me the thing that confuses her in England - To Let signs - which she always thinks says toilet!

Coffee finally procured, I went back to the room and we both had showers and ate the babybels we had left from the night before to put us on until breakfast. We finished our packing and sadly left the room at 9.45 am. We went to the car to load up the cases and then set off to the Disneyland park.

We went for breakfast at the Tomorrowland Terrace again and got the same food - a breakfast croissant each, hot chocolate and orange juice. We were served the last breakfast of the day at 10.30 am. Whilst we ate we watched the Jedi training academy which was very entertaining.

After breakfast we went to POTC where we were finally given the front seat and then I was very upset as we got really wet on the drops and I had nothing else to wear. Luckily, despite the cold, we dried out pretty quickly. We also had a final go on the Winnie the Pooh ride. Apart from that, we spent our time just wandering around the park as it was very busy and I think we would have struggled to get on anymore rides.

We left the park at 1.05 pm and headed back to the hotel. We bought some water and BBQ Lays at the hotel shop and handed in our room keys at reception which I had forgotten to do earlier. It was then time to set off for the airport at 1.25 pm. We stopped for some petrol on the way and arrived at the Dollar garage at 2.15 pm.

We transferred our cases from the car into the Dollar bus and were dropped off at the airport and checked in by 2.45 pm. We were very early as the car return had gone so smoothly, so we went to Starbucks, ordered a tea for me, a coffee for Andy and a big chocolate chip cookie to share. We played cards (Uno and Fluxx) until 4 pm when we decided we had better go through security.

Once through we had a look round the duty free shop and then bought some sour cream and onion pringles with our change and sat down to eat them. We boarded the plane at 5.15 pm.

Despite there being a full crew on the way home, we had much worse service than on the flight out. There was no drinks service before the meal was served and they only once came round with water and orange juice during the night. Tea was dry chicken with black beans, corn and sweet potato mash, greek salad with a strange pink vinaigrette, bread and butter, cheese and crackers, a chocolate brownie, a chocolate mint and a cup of tea. Andy also had a white wine, and a baileys after tea, and I had a coke.

We both drifted in and out of sleep throughout the flight. I watched St Trinians (much better than I expected as I love the old ones, except the beginning which I didn't like), National Treasure (slept through most of that) and Golden Compass (which was so good that when I found myself falling asleep, I had to pause it so I could finish it after my nap). Andy watched I am Legend (which he thought was rubbish), Two and a Half Men and the start of Ratatouille (which he was enjoying).

"Breakfast" was an egg and cheese croissant (nice but needed meat in, IMHO!) a muffin and a cup of tea. Our flight landed at 12.30 pm and we got through customs quickly only to find that the baggage chute was broken so we ended up waiting ages for our cases.

We took the shuttle bus to the car park which ended up being miles away and when the guy collected the keys for each person he ended up with everyone's except ours. This meant that I had to stand out in the middle of the car park in the snow guarding our cases (the man tried to get us to abandon the cases - yeah, because no one will nick them) whilst Andy had to go back to the office to try and locate our keys.

We eventually set off home and I'm pleased to report that the journey back was much quicker.

A final cautionary note about staying in one too many hotels, on our first night back at home, I got up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and couldn't find it! I ended up walking into my dressing table before Andy got up to point me in the opposite direction!
