Laundry tabs

I got this tip from the disboards so I thought I should share again. I use to buy Wisk tablets for the washing machines and carried them down to Disney. Then for some reason they discontinued the item. I found a thread on the dis about this very topic and one of the posts suggested using the Amway offshoot Quixtar www.quixtar.com to find laundry tabs. I found the SA8 tabs on their site.

Well, I just ordered my second shipment in two years. I only use them for travel since they are pricey at $35.85 for approx 100 tabs. You also have to pay shipping of $8-12.50 so you have to figure that into the price. But for convenience nothing beats these little tabs. We've brought them abroad and to various US timeshares, not just DVC, and they are terrific because they weigh very little yet do a great job on my clothing. In fact they seem to make the clothes soft as well. I find that one tablet is enough for a large load. When we are staying at Marriott's the washing machine is so small I only use 1/2 a tab per load. I also use 1/2 tab for towels when at DVC.

I do not sell Amway or Quixar or any other distributorship. I just thought I would pass this information along since we all do laundry when we travel and carrying laundry detergent is difficult.

We just take zip lock freezer bags and put powder detergent in them for the trip. Cheap & effective. :)

I tried that and bringing liquid in a bottle. After ruining a bag we stopped doing that. In fact my carpet in my bdrm has a big Wisk stain on it that I cannot get out. I put my suitcase on the floor to unpack it and the detergent soaked through. When we brought powder it too made a mess. I just thought that maybe somebody could use this idea. To each his own, so they say.

I use the small zip lock bags with my premeasured powder and then put in a larger zip lock bag. Never had a problem.

Me too- :)

I buy one box of detergent from the $1 store. It costs --- wait for it - $1. I put it in two layers of ziplocs, just in case. It isn't the greatest detergent, but it gets me through a week at Disney. We always have plenty leftover for debbiepump to find in her room after we check out.

Am I the only one that just buys a small box of Tide at Winn Dixie? :confused3

DH has a cow everytime I try to put something else in the bag!

Actually, since we practically have to have a seperate bage for electronics & chargers (cell phones, games, portable DVD, video camera, digital camera & laptop) I am starting to agree. It is rather comical while we are packing!

I just tried the all small and mighty--very concentrated so it takes very little room. For about $3.00 for 32 loads it is a bargain. I planned on just picking it up when I did the grocery stop.

You're not alone! Except, I buy a small box of Tide or Gain from the Super Target! less than $3... or, I just buy an extra $1.39 box of Tide from the Market Place. Last year, it used to cost only $1.

OK CRISI- Funny girl!! LOL I'm waiting to get an email from someone who found all that leftover food in the cupboards at the BWV room 4101 (I left it there with a note that had the date I found it and my email address :) ).

Marylyn,

I am with you. :thumbsup2 I am still working on my Purex Tabs and would gladly pay a premium for them. The tabs are indestructible little rocks that can withstand anything the luggage handlers can throw at them, ANYTHING. I keep 6 in my luggage at all times in the mesh cover. Yet they disolve instantly. I also have a few boxes of bleach Tabs. I didn't like worrying about something popping open or worse having to explain why i had a baggie full of white powder in my luggage.

Thanks for the tip. Tide had made the same thing and I was lucky enough to be given a box of them . By the time I used them all they no longer sold them. I used them all the time on vacation , nice neat and easy to travel with.

thanks again

:thumbsup2

I always take advantage of internet offers for free samples of laundry detergent and fabric softener. When they arrive in the mail I automatically put them in the official "Disney Drawer" (lanyards, water bottle straps, disposable rain ponchos, etc.) The sample sizes are in very durable packaging and travel friendly.

I am using my last box of WISK tablets that I found on clearance at Meijer for $3.xx/big box.

I finally convinced DH to not use them for regular laundry since they are no longer sold.

I also pack them for vacations only and picked up some of the bleach tablets to carry. Add a stain stick and a few dryer sheets and we are ready to go. With the W/D in the room, we can pack less and not bring home suitcases full of dirty laundry.

I love my WISK and am scared for the day it is all gone. I will then probably also pick up a small bottle of detergent when we run to SuperWal-Mart, but for now the tablets are my friend.

Thanks for the info. I too love the tablets. I had purchased a huge box at BJ's about a year ago. I have about 1/2 box left. I too only use them for vacations. It's good to know some are available after I run out of my precious tide tabs.

A side note I found amuzing, before I realized they had been discontinued I used them at home often. A friend of mine mentioned that my family's clothes always smell so nice. I am convinced the tabs keep the fresh smell longer than an open box of powder. I just thought it was interesting. :)
