Laundry Service, or pack a LOT?

I usually don't use laundry service at hotels (except the occasional business trip where I dont have to pay for it), but I've been thinking it might be a good idea this time.

It's just myself, DW and DD5 in a suite, for 6 nights. But the way I see it we'll probably use AT LEAST 2 outfits a day. We will either go back to hotel for a break and get changed into fresh clothes, or have a long day at parks and get changed before dinner.

So that means we'd each have to bring like 12-14 outfits. Seems like our suitcases would be HUGE.

So I'm thinking the hotel laundry service would be great, especially since we then wouldnt have a ton of laundry to do when we get home. I think just doing 2 batches of wash while on vacation would be fine.

What do you normally do?

We are DVC members and get a 1 bedroom that has the washer/dryer in the unit. If we are staying in a DVC studio(has no washer/dryer) and before we were DVC'ers we would use the laundry room that every on property resort has. They have a bunch of washer/dryers and sell the detergent and they are usually located near the pool or on a certain floor of the resort. Where are you staying?

I would never use a Laundry service at a hotel- Im way too cheap for that!!:rotfl2: I always do laundry while we are on vacation, whether it is Disney or the beach, etc. I just factor that into our time and get it done. It is pretty expensive to do my own loads at Disney ($2 wash and $2 dry and I had 3-4 loads at a time) so I cant even imagine what it would be to send it off to be done. I dont think I would like others washing my unmentionables either:laughing:
On our last trip this past Jan. I did laundry on three different days (we were on a ten day trip with 7 plus an infant, one infant=lots of dirty stuff!!).

I'm staying at the Courtyard by Marriott on Palm parkway.

I figure it would probably cost $120 to get the laundry done through vacation. That's arguably worth it to not have to worry about it.

However now that I'm thinking about it....there should be some laundry places near my hotel where they would do the laundry "per pound" in which case it would probably only be about $40, which is DEFINITELY worth it.

Anyone know where I can find local laundry shops?

Most hotels have a laundry room with washers and dryers where you can do it yourself...usually it runs about $2.00 per load per wash and the same for a dry....

When we take a long vacation (4 days or more) I usually do laundry at least once during the trip. On a Disney vacation I'd either do it one night (or two for a longer trip) while we relax in the room, or during an afternoon while we are hanging out at the pool.

I would NEVER use the hotel laundry service, because they charge per item (last time I looked at the list in a hotel, it was something like $8. for a pair of pants, $3. for a pair of socks...NO WAY!)

Your resort has coin operated laundry onsite. I would just use that while we spent the day at the pool. I would think it would be more of a pain to go to a pay by pound laundry place. What if they ruin something or lose something. I'm sure you would have to drop it off then pick it up too.

Sorry, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna do laundry on vacation. I actually found a place 1/4 mile from my hotel that should do laundry.

If they loose stuff or ruin stuff I dont really care. It's vacation, all we're gonna have is socks, t-shirts and shorts.

Our standard trip is 9 nights. I pack 18 outfits for each of us and wash it when we get home.

This summer our trip will be 16 nights. I haven't worked that out yet, but I am leaning towards 32 outfits each. Even if I have to pay the charge for the bags being overweight.

I'd like to do this, but we don't have enough clothes. Do you each really have 32 pairs of shorts??? (just curious... not a flame). :)

I always do it myself while the kids are swimming. The resorts have the laundry right by the pools. I put it in, get one of those fruity drinks and a trashy magazine and the kids swim. I hate bringing home stinky, sweaty clothes.

My main reason for doing the laundry there is so I don't have to do it when I get home. I'm already depressed to be back home and doing a ton of laundry makes it worse!LOL

Are you serious? You would rather pack 64 outfits than throw a couple of loads of shorts and T shirts into the washer while you are at the pool one day?

I can't imagine taking 64 outfits with me on vacation - I don't think I even have 20 outfits.

If you are going in the summer I would absolutely find a way to get the clothes washed. It is so hot and humid in the summer, I can't imagine having those gross clothes sitting around in my room all week. I hate doing laundry more than anything else, but I love going home with clean laundry. As someone else said, going home is depressing and I am always tired, so I like clean laundry to take home.

We drive, so we can really load our luggage up. We usually go for 6 nights. Now - my last trip, I did laundry and it wasn't so bad. I stayed in a DVC studio and the laundry facility was across the hall. We stayed at Poly once and I regretted doing laundry because I felt like I had to sit there and wait for my laundry.

If I am not planning on doing laundry, I usually pack my dd3 2 outfits for every day. I pack my ds7, dh, and myself 1 pair of shorts for every day and 2 shirts for every day. But I do consider the day I am leaving - 1 shirt and the day I arrive 1 shirt - so that is 10 shirts each.

You just need to decide if you want to do laundry when you are on vacation.
