Laundry Service at the Poly

My extended family of 8 including 2 small children will be staying at the Poly for a week. DH, DS6, and DD4, and I will be driving from SC. DD's 5th birthday is at the end of the trip.

Should we pack enough clothes, including extras for the kids, or should we avail ourselves of either the laundry room or the laundry services?

Does anyone have the prices on laundry services?

Laundry service is expensive - I don't have current prices, but it's in the range of $3 for a pair of underwear or a pair of socks, $7-10 for a pair of shorts - pretty expensive!

I would just use the laundry room sometime. Plan on a few hours and as long as it's not crowded, you could get quite a bit of laundry done. Bring quarters as sometimes the change machines are not working, in my experience. They sell single-use detergent and fabric softener in the laundry room in a vending machine. It's been a few years since I did laundry at the Poly, but it's a few dollars a load to wash and the same to dry from what I recall.

Laundry services are really and I mean really expensive. The laundry room is very convenient to the pool area. It's pretty easy to do laundry on a pool day. I think Poly has one of the best laundry rooms. I see your driving so you can pack as many clothes as you wan't. We always fly. I pack light and do laundry every 3 days. Yuck I know. The laundry room is alway on the top of my priority list when choosing a resort.

Just want to be clear - I didn't write the post attributed to me (and not even part of this thread apparently!) above in the thread. I wrote what I am now seeing above my typing here as a quote - about laundry @ the Poly. The boards are doing very weird things, definitely!

Just on the off chance today that this post gets put on the correct thread :confused3 (the board is just tooo weird for words today). Regarding the laundry: I agree with whoever actually posted about how expensive the laundry services are. Doing your own laundry (especially for that large a family) is really the way to go. We travel by car, so really aren't limited as to how much we can bring with us, but I would think that with a family your size, you will have to be careful with the amount that you pack.

Doing laundry at just about any of the resorts is just sooo easy. Easiest on a non-park day, but just as easy if you have an early evening back at the resort. The machines are large capacity, so it's not hard to do it all with just a couple of loads. I bring my own detergent in premeasured ziplock bags, other people use the Purex 3 in one sheets. And there are vending machines with detergent as well (expensive, of course). Last time I used them they cost $2 per load (I buy a roll of quarters at the bank before leaving home).

Agreed. Laundry service is CRAZY expensive. We stayed at the Polynesian in Raratonga, which is to the right as you come out of the Ceremonial House. We were on the third floor, with a balcony overlooking the quiet pool. You are right there close to the dining and shops in the main building, not too far from the main pool, and the laundry is in the building just past it. (It was a great location for a garden view-- you could even see Wishes over the roof of the building in front of us. Not as good as the view from the beach, but the kids got a kick out of it if we happened to be in the room getting ready for bed.) I ran back and forth to the laundry from the quiet pool one afternoon. Not fun, but not bad either.
Some of the detergent machines were broken when I was there last year, so I had to go to the desk to get some. They gave it to me for free, but I had to wait in a long line, as it was busy. If you can bring your own, that's the way to go!
