Laundry Question

At the moment we use washing powder but we were wondering about the differences in using powder, liquid, tablet or liquitabs.
What does everyone use?
Which is the most economical?
Is there any difference in the washing quality?

we use tablets - normally which ever named brand is on offer at the moment, I am using ariel - the purple pack at the moment. I use tablets for convenience, don't quite trust the pouch things I would worry that the plasticky outside would not dissolve and clog up my machine.

I do only and have always only used one tablet instead of the recommended 2, never affected the quality of the wash, but makes the pack last alot longer, I have done this after watching a watchdog type programme that was basically saying that half the recommended amount is sufficient for 1 wash - but obviously the manufacturer recommends more *** the more we use the more we buy!!!

I used to use powder-Persil non bio powder,but noticed on the dark clothes that powder substance was being left behind.I had a free sample of persil non bio liquid capsules sent thru the door,used them and have done ever since.They are the round blue liquid capsules.
You're supposed to use 2 per wash,but i only use 1 for darks,1,for quick washes,2 for lights.Personally i do see a difference in the clothes-they feel softer too.
Did switch to Asda's own brand liqui capsules-to save a bit of money,but ended up throwing them away-they did'nt dissolve properly+left blue goop on the clothes.
Also did'nt like the powder as it constantly blocked up the drawer opening.x.

Good point, I do have to clean out the powder drawer quite often.

I also remember buying an extra large pack of Bold powder from Macro once and putting it in the car boot. When I got home I went to lift it out and the bottom fell out of the box! - I had a small mountain of washing powder in my boot. Took me ages to spoon it all out and then hoover up the last few bits. Car smelt nice for ages though LOL

I've used liquids for years now, I've never bought those huge packs of powder - liquid is so much more convenient and space saving. I've switched to the super concentrated ones now. I have two small children so I do a lot of washing and although not as much now, I do have a lot of stained clothing. I think the liquids go a long way

I use a colour safe one for all colours and a bio for my whites along with oxy powder. I use whichever brand is on offer, I'm not loyal

We used to use liquid when you could still buy Radion (does anyone remember that).

Now we use tablets - was using tesco own brand but found that they left residue on dark clothes so now use Persil liquigel tab. I nly use one, even when they advise to use 2 as, again, I find that 2 tablets seems to be too much and sometimes leave residue.

I do about 4-6 loads of washing a week so a box of 48 tabs lasts us about 2 months.

Same here! I only use the 2 recommended capsules for large washes - bed linen, towels and the dog quilts. The rest of the time, I just use one as I wash little and often.

I recently had a free sample of the Fairy non-bio powder tablets and gave them a try. Cleaned well and smelt good so I bought a full-size pack but had an allergic reaction! I promptly switched back to Persil...

We use one of those liqud tab things that you throw into the drum, but to be honest i just use whatever is in the cupboard for me.

ooh I'm liking the sound of liquitabs, think I'll have to give them a go ! I always use powder, usually buy a giant box from Macro when it's on offer and it lasts forever. (think it's aeriel nonbio). Use a concentrated fabric conditioner.

I use Ariel Colour Excel Gel, which you squeeze the gel in to the lid & chuck it in the drum. One bottle lasts at approx 22-25 washes.

I have tried Ariel Liquitabs but found that they don't disolve fully so i won't be buying them again, I just use the one's I've got for hotter washes such as towels & the dog blankets.

I use Tesco non-bio for us and surcare for DS.

Tesco non-bio is powder but I have to get whatever the supermarket has decided to stock for the surcare (concentrated liquid st the moment but powder last week!)

I use surcare tablets for all our washing on holiday (but I haven't seen the tablets on sale recently). But I don't use tablets at home as they don't dissolve properly in my machine.

I've used liquid, but tend to make a mess (I don't think I spill it but it gets all over the worktop somehow!??)

I tried the liquitabs but have ended up with a sticky mess stuck to some clothes on a few occasions (I assume the casing didn't dissolve.)

P.S. The surcare is very harsh and bleaches the colour out of clothes (not so good when DS was wearing a black school uniform, but at least it helps his eczema.)

i buy the biggest box of powder I can find at the cheapest price usually BUT then ASDA did an offer in January for boxes of 24 wash Persil tablets (£2 per box I think) and I'm now converted. Think I bought enough to last me about three months which is a lot since I do more than 12 washes a week
