Laundry or not??

even for long trips we all bring enough clothes bc we dont like to worry about laundry on vacation we bring everyones clothes in a separate laundry bag... the problem was last time i overpacked and even after the vacation i had still enough clean clothes to go on another vacation... which i wouldnt have minded

As much as I would love to do a trip to DW WITHOUT doing laundry, it just doesn't happen! I just don't have enough suitcases for 5 of us to live out of for 12 days! it's not really such a big deal because it actually gives me kind of a break from the parks etc. for a couple of hours. I usually do it really early one morning or later in the evening....no biggie. A book or two and a drink and I'm set! I really get claustrophobic in some of those laundry rooms though! the one at the YC has been the worst one so far, I'm hoping the poly has a decent one. only 2 full days 'till we hit DW! Woo Hoo! we usually do laundry twice. Once in the middle of the week and then on the last day. We love to bring home clean clothes. We are both early birds so we do it way before the parks open.

I would only do laundry if my suite had a w/d in it. I do not want to spend my vacation sitting in a laundry mat. Even if it is in a Disney Resort. We just spent 7 days (late Aug.) in Disney with 5 kids and I did not do laundry. We even went to Daytona for 4 days after that and I still did not do laundry.

Even though it is just DH and me, I tend to to a load of laundry mid-stay. Since it is hot, we are changing clothes more often. So, I do a load or two of favorite items we want to re-wear, socks, underwear. I only have 4 pairs of shorts, so they get thrown in there, in case I want to wear them again. The skirts and skorts tide me over until the shorts get washed.

I usually do the wash in the early morning, or during an afternoon break.

At Target I have found a small bottle of TIde liquid that does 4 loads. I found it in the travel/sample aisle. Easy to pack, and very convenient. I usually leave the bottle for anyone else to take, as for $1.00, I don't want to pack it up and drag it home.

Doing Laundry or Not is a personal preference, but here are a few tips if you decide that laundry is a must. First of all Disney Resorts considered doing laundry when planning the resort and located all their laundry facilities close to the pool so it is easy to enjoy the pool between switching loads. If you are staying in a DVC resort, the laundry facilities are either in your Villa or free machines are conveniently located near a pool. Pack laundry detergent that comes in pre-measured tablets. The box is small or just bring what you anticipate using. Regardless of whether or not you do laundry a POP UP LAUNDRY BASKET is a MUST! They fold down when not in use and can be packed in a suitcase. Pop it open and you have a hamper as well as something to carry your clothes to and from the laundry.

We did laundry for the first time during our trip last Sept. The main reason was because of the heat and schwetty clothes. It was just DH and myself, so we threw the laundry in the washer and hopped in the pool. It was nice that we didn't carry home a mountain of dirty clothes. We usually try to hit WDW during the winter months. This year we'll be traveling in Jan. and plan to do some smart packing with clothes that mix and match. We just returned from a vaca in the Outer Banks and I packed half of my closet. Stupid move...our bedroom was on the 3rd floor and we had to lug all that crap up 3 flights. Plus, the house had a laundry room, so what was I thinking? I say do some laundry as long as it doesn't interfere with all the fun stuff, but then everyone does hit the pool at some point, so it makes it rather convienient.

I too did laundry mid-week of an 8 day trip. I really just didn't want to take THAT much laundry back home! For four people that's alot of clothes!

On a side note: We stayed at ASMovies, and the dryers sucked! It was 2.00 for a 30 minute dry cycle, and after THREE cycles the clothes were still really damp! Times two loads, that was $12 bucks!

I was not happy & DH went down & talked to the Front Desk Manager. He got the $12 back and the manager said we would have the dryers checked out immediately. Everyone in there was complaining about it, and I tried several dryers. So just a heads up!

We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with laundry machines right in the kitchen. I told the kids to put their dirty laundry right into the washing machine and each night I would run the load. No big deal at all. All my clothes came home clean from the trip and next time, I know that we don't need as much clothing as you might think!

Last year when we stayed at PO Riverside, I did laundry for the first time. I picked up one of those pop-up hampers, and picked up travel size detergent at Target. We were there from Sun to Sat, but we also had to count in the stop at my mom's to drop off the dog, and we drive down one day early, so the day we check in, we have the whole day. Add on the stop back to my mom's at the end of the trip and its 9 days worth of clothes! Even if we don't wear all of it, having the whites clean helped out (only have so much undies) and it was less to do when I got home. I set up the laundry and we went to the pool. It worked out great. I don't know how it will work in Nov. when we go, since I'm not planning on pool time, but I will bring be prepared to do it. I'm sure there will be some time when we're planning a late night when I can get it done.

I don't do laundry on vacation. I don't even want to think about laundry on vacation.

AMEN to that! I just bring some extra skivvies and an extra T-shirt, just in case.

My wife and I always plan on doing laundry once while there. Last time at AKL we put in the clothes, got a drink and sat out on the terrace to watch the animals. We plan to do the same next week (laundry not the animals) at CBR. Anyone have any experiences doing laundry there?

Packing less clothes allows more shopping in World Showcase.

I used to go down for five or six days and didn't do laundry while I was there. On one of my solo week-long trips, though, it was really hot and rainy and I discovered that I didn't have enough clothes with me to combat that. I ended up doing laundry about midweek and I was amazed at how nice it was to just sort of kick back and do something non-vacationy for a while. When I'm by myself, I tend to rush around and see whatever I want to see, just because I can. Doing laundry forced me to take a break from the whirlwind.

Now I always plan on doing laundry on Day 4, even though I bring at least enough clothing to see me through Day 5. Of course, if I didn't go every year and I didn't stay for a week at a time, it would probably be a different story.

After my trip a year ago, I have decided to always do laundry mid-trip. I'm a pretty compulsive over-packer, and brought waaaaaay too many clothes last year. I could easily have brought half of the clothes (or even less) because I did laundry. It doesn't take long (less than two hours if you use more than one washer or dryer at a time) and is totally worth it. I just considered it a short break from the parks (I did my laundry mid-afternoon on a Wednesday, and was the only person in the laundry room).

I planned to do laundry 1/2 way through, but when I arrived at the machines (lysol in hand), I wasn't very interested. The machines were little icky for my taste.

Bring the clorox wipes, especially if you are a germaphobe like me. Next time I'm bringing enough clothing for 7 days and 7 nights.

When we are at the World with the whole family in a 1 or 2 bedroom villa I do a load everyday switching from whites/lights on even days and then darks on odd days. However when I am there with just DH I will do all dirty cloths mid way or closer to the end of the trip. I do bring my laundry detergent with me as well as dryer sheets, however they do sell supplies at the hotel shops and if I remember correctly they have vending machines in the laundry rooms. If I'm wrong about this I am sure someone will correct me.

I always do laundry at WDW. We pack very lightly and then just do some laundry. I prefer to do this instead of having to pack more stuff.

As much as I hate to admit it, I do have to do laundry at least one time during our stay. We typically stay 8 days which requires me to do one load but that also means we're not bringing lots of dirty laundry back home with us.
