Laundry or not to Laundry?

I was planning on washing then at the last minute decided I didn't want to do laundry and packed enough. Then as I watched the dirty clothes pile up I decided I really didn't want to take all that dirty laundry home, I did two loads of laundry. I will pack light from now on and do laundry it seems easier.

It may also depend on when you're going. We're packing enough clothes, but are bringing some laundry supplies just in case. Someone mentioned on another thread that in the winter months you can end up wearing shorts and t-shirts or long shirts & jeans every day. So if its all of one or the other, I am going to need to do laundry.

a tip that I learned from my grandma is to buy those packs of undies from the dollar store. Wear them once, then toss them -- makes for less laundy and a little more space when you're trying to find a spot for some of those goodies you're bringing back :cool2:

On a variation of this, I go through all of our drawers before we go...I pick out all the underwear and socks and pjs that are truly ready for the trash...we wear and toss as we go and ditch old tshirts (usually worn at the pool) and jammies at the end...less wash and more room for stuff to bring home!

I have both done laundry midpoint vacation and brought enough clothes to get us through...it's a hard call, because there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Whatever you decide, still bring less stuff. I love the tip of put out what you want to bring and put back half...We have never needed as much as I bring no matter what.
Good luck!

Our resort has a washer and dryer in the room so it is convient to do laundry. I put a load in the morning and the into the dryer when we return.

I am a classic over-packer so for me being able to bring less is a wonderful. Not to mention it has helped my DH's back :rolleyes1

Hi

Just my two cents. We were at AKL in December and I did wash twice, mid-week and right before we left. Didn't take long and was much easier to bring less and to unpack clean clothes at home. We put laundry in and went to the pool for a swim. It was quite painless. Just a tip, in case you want to save some money, bring your own detergent and fabric softener. The machines are $2 each, washer and dryers.

Have a great time whatever you decide.

I never used to do laundry when we vacationed in WDW, but have started to do so the past 2 trips. Our trips are always in the hotter months, (June, July, or August), so the 4 of us tend to go through 2 outfits a day . We stayed at AKL and they have a very nice laundry room, with several chairs and a TV to relax while the clothes are in the washer. I hate to admit it but my family and I are "souvineer junkies", so we always need luggage space to bring home our treasures and so doing laundry has helped us eliminate bringing twice as many clothes, therefore, leaving the extra space for us to pack a smaller suitcase within a larger one.:confused3 i know, i know, my name is Donna and I am a Disney addict!!!:rotfl2:

I always do laundry when my family of 4 is in WDW. Usually, we stay in a condo that has a washer/dryer in the unit, and that makes things very easy.

But, I've also done laundry at the Beach Club (where you can spend the time sitting at the quiet pool) and PO Riverside. No problem with either one; have done laundry in the evening, leaving the husband with the kids in the room. It's kind of nice to "get away" for a while and that way, I don't have to worry about playing laundry catch-up when we arrive home.

I got my mom to do my laundry... does that count? :rotfl:
She was staying off site in a condo and I gave her 3-4 loads of dirties and I got them back all clean and folded. (Love my Mommy!) I planned on needing to do 2-3 loads for our 11 nights, I only brought 1/2 the amount of jammies, socks, jeans and shorts we needed and planned to wash it myself but she offered!
also, I sent her home ( she drove) with a suitcase of dirty Disney shirts and summer stuff that she'll bring back to me in May. since I won't need them here until then. (I Really love my Mommy!) It left me more room to bring back those giant stuffed Mickey's.

I tend to do laundry half way through the trip. My kids spill stuff, and stains left for a week really set, even if you use the stuff on the spot right away. I'd rather do the laundry than come home and have to throw away half the clothes...

Like a PP said before, its a personal choice. I do tend to do laundry at least once during the vacation. If we're at one of the hotels, laundry provides a little down time for us during the week. And if we stay at DVC, I can use the machines in the unit without interrupting our daily plans.

I like being able to pack for a family of 4 in 1 suitcase. We also we have room for a fold up carry-on which we use upon our return for our souvenirs.

Would you pack enough clothes for a family of 4 for 7 days or would you plan on washing mid week? :laundy:

My initial thought is to pack so I don't have to take the time to wash in a public washer - YUCK!:crazy2:
Depends where we saty. Offf site condo we pack les and do laundry.Onsite we pack more.

I never did laundry on vacation before but the last 2 I have. It work out great. Kids swim, I put 2 or 3 loads before you know it its done. It worked out great...less to do when you get home.
Take your own detergents and quarters too.

Our first trip I did not do laundry...my thinking was I was on vacation too. But, when we came back and I had a weeks worth of laundry to look forward to and I didn't like that either. So, last time, I planned a trip to the laundry. Just did it the night the kids played in the pool.

I don't really get the heebee geebees from public laundromats. For the first 5 years of my marriage to ex we lived in apartments with a common laundry area. So, I would agree that it would have to be a personal choice!

We always do laundry. It doesn't matter how long we are there, we do laundry.

First, we are DVC, and always stay at OKW in a One Br (laundry in room)

We pack for 3 days, it doesn't matter if we are going for 4 days (like last Dec) or 12 days (as is usual) or 9 days (like next summer). We only pack for 3 days, and one nicer outfit for going to dinner at Citrico's or CA Grill.

We just put a load in the wash in the morning when we leave, change it to the dryer when we return and put another in the wash if need be (usually do, because one load light, one load dark). Laundry doesn't impact us. My wife likes us to look nice, so she even irons the shorts, slacks and shirts (and her dresses).

Just MHO, YMMV

Later,

Andy

We were on an 8 day trip and wanted to save space in our suitcases for purchases we knew we would be making so we washed three small batches in the middle of the trip.

We stayed at POFQ where they had lots of washers and dryers, most were available to we were able to do all three at the same time. Me and DH sat a read a book while DS swam at the pool right outside the laundry room. Very convenient and we didn't mind it a bit since it was during our afternoon break from the parks anyway. If it was 5 days or less, we would not have done laundry.

I always do laundry on vacation. I like to bring home clean clothes. I always have lots of chores waiting for me when I get home, and I always go back to work the day after we get back, which is always a zoo the first week back. So, the thought of having to do extra laundry when I get home is enough to make me devote part of an evening to washing clothes.

The first 3 stays w/ a child--no laundry. Last trip--Yes---It wasn't that bad. Did not have to pack as many clothes. Also, the weather changed on us. Went in March. I packed capris and light jackets mostly. Turned HOT!!! I only had two pairs of shorts---so wash and rewear w/differ shirt.

I have been doing laundry in "GASP "a public washing machine for 15 years. No one has ever gotten sick from it. Imagine that!!!:rotfl:
