Laundry & ironing help!

I liked the idea of the cubes and folders. I looked into them, but couldn't justify the price for seven people. We can afford them, but I have built a business around extreme couponing where I buy cheap or get items free, then sell the excess. It's been very lucrative, and has resulted in my liking to save money on everything. That way when we go to Disney, we are able to spend freely. It lessens the guilt factor of spending the amount of money a new car would cost on Disney! Anyway, I thought mayne I would buy one here and there until I have all of them I need, or not- we'll see! I got my ziplocs for almost free, so I REALLY enjoy using them! Plus, my kids tore everything out of their suitcases looking for certain outfits last year, and then couldn't figure out what went with what! Argh! The ziplocs are ideal for this issue as they can see wht is in them, pull it out, or put it back, and it stays folded! Maybe I will do the folders for me tho.

I got my first packing folders and packing cubes from ebags.com which are a little expensive, but one day I was in TJ Maxx and happened to see some Eagle Creek packing folders and cubes for alot cheaper than the ones from Ebags.com. I stocked up on them and now have them to mix and match depending on the length of the trip, what I'm packing, and who may be going with me. I also saw some on clearance when our local Samsonite Outlet went out of business. So you can find them alot cheaper sometimes.

I arrange my outfits on hangers and place them in the order I plan on wearing them before I ever start packing. When I start to pack into the packing folder, I start with the the extra outfit, then pack the last day's outfit, then the next to the last day and so on, so that when I'm finished all of my outfits will be in the order that I'll be wearing them with the first day's on top, then the second day's, and so on. Once I get to the resort and into the room, I either slide the stack of clothes directly onto the shelf above the closet keeping them in order, or sometimes depending on how many people are going to be in the room with me, I carry a small, flat, folding shelving unit that I hang in the closet and then place the outfits still together and still in order onto the shelves. With the shelving unit I can hang nine days worth of outfits using only about 12" of the closet rod. Here's the one I used:

Thanx for all the info! I want to not have to check a bag, but it may be unavoidable with the amount of shoes I have to bring due to my feet injuries. If I come across some inexpensive folders I may buy a couple just for my husband and I. If I can get us down to a carry-on for each of us, I will be happy.

I do laundry while I'm at WDW. We take a break from the parks during the day and go to the pool so I just throw in a load. We drive down so I just pack our usual laundry detergent and dryer sheets in the truck of the car. We generally take about 3 or 4 outfits and do laundry mid week.
It is just what works for us.

Since you are flying, I recommend the detergent/fabric softener sheets. I think Purex may make them. It's just a sheet that you put in the washer and then transfer to the dryer. They are no bigger really than a dryer sheet and you would just have to take a few. I think you can find them in Walmart's travel section in a smaller pack than in the detergent isle. I also recommend Downey's Wrinkle Releaser. I never iron, just spray my clothes and hang up the night before.

We are going to take a cruise after we do WDW..I think I am going to do laundry on the last night at WDW...My question is does the ships have iron, ironing board and a laundry room as well???? :confused3

All the rooms will have irons and ironing boards if you need them. But hey: you''re on vacation too, and who really cares if your kids Tshirts have a few wrinkles?

We did a 7 days cruise on Royal Caribbean....no laundry facilities. But, they did have fluff and fold so everythng you sent did not have to be dry cleaned. Maybe your ship will have a laundry room though!

Thanks to EVERYONE who has given me amazing tips for packing. We have 3 more days at home before we go. I have 3 large suitcases loaded for our 11 day trip. Let me just say that 2 gallon ziplock bags are great - for clothes and toiletries! :)

I am so excited. I can't wait to get there!!

We were on the Disney Wonder last year and yes, they have laundry rooms on board. That is where the irons/ironing boards are located as well (I think its an electrical/fire safety thing on the ships.
I believe that all the Disney ships now have washers and dryers that use your keycard instead of quarters to operate. TIP: bring your own detergent or use the Purell sheets. Much more economical than buying from the dispensers.

Hope you have a wonderful cruise. We certainly appreciated the rest after a week at WDWpirate:

Yep! Purex 3 in 1! Even I am taking a couple though I thoroughly plan on not doing any laundry. I just like to be prepared for a "just in case" moment.

I never mind a couple wrinkles! I did iron what went into the bags, but after that...oh well!

Yay for Ziplocs, and have fun!!!!

My mom says if you put tissue paper in your clothes when you pack, it will not wrinkle. I recently learned from my sister to roll clothes instead of folding them in order to fit a lot more items in a suitcase. Try putting a sheet of tissue paper on a shirt, then fold the sleeves in and roll it. Try the same for pants and see how they turn out. This method may fit a lot of items in a suitcase and keep them virtually wrinkle free. To save space, pack some socks inside of shoes. The rolling method allows you to fill in all the small spaces with rolled socks and underwear too. Good luck and hope this helps!

I like the socks into the shoes tip. Hadn't thought of that. I used to do the rolling method and have found that I can fit more in the suitcases with the Ziplocs, so I am a Ziploc convert. Or would that be a rolling convert? Either way, I like how flat and neat the whole process is. My kids can't get in there and throw everything around and mix up the outfits. My daughter just told me the other day that she didn't wear certain things last year b/c they got mixed up, and she didn't know what went with what! Anyway, I'm glad everyone has something that works for them, and are willing to share ideas!

. Using the packing guide that comes with them I can get a full week's worth of tshirts, shorts, and capris into one 18" packing folder which then easily fits into one side of my carry on and I'm pooh sized.:rotfl: As long as the velcro will catch, those things will stay closed, so you can really stuff them. I then pack nine days worth of panties and a nightgown in a slim packing cube and a week's worth of bras in another slim packing cube. If I need socks for the trip I'll pack nine pairs into a third slim cube. I use a Vera Bradley toiletry bag for travel size toiletries, a Vera Bradley trip kit for several cans of sunscreen, a Vera Bradly Kiss and Make up bag for makeup brushes and tiny travel size makeup items, a VB tech case for phone and battery chargers, another VB tech case for my camera, a VB coin purse for my MP3 player and charger, and a small packing cube for miscellaneous items that I don't want loose in my bag. I then fold any extra clothes I might want to carry into a 20" packing folder that I drop into the bottom of my checked bag. I keep a dryer sheet in both packing folders and in each suitcase to keep everything smelling fresh. Every night when I get back from the parks I repack my clothes (including underclothes), back into the 20" folder using the packing guide to do so. That way at the end of the week everything is already repacked (and squished nice and flat) and all I have to do is drop the empty 18" packing folder and the empty slim cubes into the bottom of my checked bag, with the 20" packing folder which is full of dirty clothes on top. My carry on will now have room to bring back any souvineers and when I get home all I have to do is drop the 20" packing folder full of dirty clothes into the laundry basket, wash off the packing folders and replace the laundry sheet with a new one, to wait until my next trip. I also replace the stuff in the toiletry bag and rehang it in the closet to be ready for the next trip. It makes packing and unpacking a breeze. I like that using the 18" packing folder I can easily carry a week's worth of outfits, plus my underclothes, camera, MP3 player, and cell phone in my carry on. My checked bag will have very little in it going down there, but will be full (but still underweight) coming home, leaving my carry on almost empty for souvineers.

This is a FAbulous tip! Thank you.:goodvibes
