Laundry in a studio

I have read that DVC owner's have access to free laundry facilities when staying in a Studio. Can someone explain how it works? Do I just go to the regular laundry room and wave my magic blue DVC Owner card? Is there a specific room I need to go to? Anyone???

When we stayed in a studio at Beach Club Villas there was a laundry room on one of the floors that had LG high efficiency washers that you could use. They were free to use.

Yep, they are free. In some cases you need your room key to enter the laundry room. Some are just open. Some machines will have the mechanism for putting in change, but you don't really need to put any money in.

Using the facilities doesn't require a DVC card, so I imagine the answer is yes.

Not sure how it works in the other resorts since we have only ever stayed in a studio at AKV (and won't repeat the experience - we're hooked on the 1BR ). But at least at AKV, there is a separate laundry room for DVC guests. This wasn't marked on the map you get at checkin, so I ended up using a courtesy phone just outside the 'normal' laundry room on the ground floor to phone the front desk and ask.

I can't remember exactly where the DVC laundry room was, but I'm pretty sure it was 5th floor.

At the DVC resorts that are attached to "regular" WDW Hotels, there is a separate free laundry room in the DVC wing. Often you need your room key to access it. As other have stated, washer types will vary, some are coin op type that really don't require coins, just push in the empty coin slot, others are standard household type washing machines.

At OKW and SSR all the laundry facilities are free, as they are dedicated DVC resorts (not "attached" to another hotel.) This will probably be true for the Kidani building at AKV and the tower building for BLT...all the laundry facilities will likely be free.

At SSR the laundry facilities for the studio rooms are located at each pool. You don't need a room key, but perhaps after hours you might. I have never had a problem. And yes, there are slots for coins, but you don't put any money in. They are free to resort guests.

Thanks for all of the helpful information! We will be at BCV in just a few days to test this out. We used the regular cash laundry room last time, it will be nice to get a free load of laundry (or two)!!

Just a caveat . . . we were in a BWV studio last June and used the free laundry "mat". Those energy efficient LG units are a pain. I guess because they use less water - it means it takes double time to wash. Still a nice freebie, though.

I used the washer and dryers at BCV during our last trip at BCV in December and it was great not to come home with dirty laundry. If I would have known for sure I would be doing this I would have packed less.

I asked a cleaning person where it was as it is not on the map.

I know there is a laundry on the 4th floor of BCV between 409 and 425 on the main hallway next to the main elevator, It is where I went in the middle of the night to check on the tropical storm forecast without turning on the TV in the room and waking the family last August.

Since becoming an owner we have notice how much less we pack due to the laundry facilities. We love it, seems kinda weird doing laundry on vacation but couple loads and your done and no carting dirty laundry home.
Just 1 more thing we love bout DVC!

Hope you don't mind me adding to this post but as long as we are speaking about laundry.. I once read about some detergent that Target sold that sounded like the kind you use in your dishwasher. Easy to pack, to use, premeasured. Anyway, we went to Target yesterday and couldn't find it. Anyone know what I am talking about and what's it called? Trying to start planning for upcoming ssr trip. Thanks for any help!

We timeshare a lot and if the washer you are using accepts powder then, I just pack snack bag sized of pre-measured detergent. I've never had a problem with security either. I put it in the front pocket of my suitcase. However, it sounds like on this thread some of the washers might be HE if that is case then, I'm assuming you'll have to use liquid. I have a HE washer and I keep a box of powdered laundry detergent for trips.

Anyways... I've seen the soap you are talking about at Target in the travel sample section. Ours is by pharmacy.

Unless something has changed, DVC provides a small box of tide powder for laundry in the villas that have washers and sell the powder in the free laundromats and in the gift shops.

For crying out loud, why doesn't DVC get its act together and get the proper laundry detergent into the DVC laundries that have HE machines and let members know about this! These machines are going to be ruined in no time. The vending machines in the laundry rooms still hold soap for regular machines. There are NO instructions posted (at least not at BWV) for how to operate the HE machines or what soap to use. The doors are being closed when not in use and the machines are already starting to smell musty. I was lucky to have read on these boards that BWV now has HE machines so I brought liquid and softener designed for HE machines. But how are members supposed to know this? Why hasn't there been something in member publications or on the website. How maddening!
