Hi fello dis-buddies  ! One thing I haven't read yet is in regards to the self-laundry facilities (particularly the BC) Is it safe to leave your laundry, or not? I do not plan to leave things for an extended period, at the same time, I do not want to have flashbacks of pre washer/dryer days at the laundramat, pirate: and have to babysit the washer/dryers full cycle. that would be an unacceptable loss of disney hours- would rather take extra clothes and wash at home-what are your thoughts?? As always, thanks :disrocks:

i was just at the pors last week and used their laundry. i made a quick trip to walmart and got the soap and dryer sheets. it can get expensive, and the soap is the powder type. i just left the extra after i finished for anyone else to use it.

it was $2.00 to wash and another $2.00 to dry. i would seperate jeans or heavy clothes to dry into smaller loads than you do at home.

nobody stood and watched their clothes, but they didn't go to parks while it was in either. i think there were 8 washers and 12 dryers at our resort. it was very clean and airconditioned.

hope this helps, have a good trip.

thanks for the advise! we are already bringing soap/dryer sheets, just wanted to make sure we could go for a casual dinner, swim, or just to our rooms without worries Thanks!

I have used the laundry facilitities at POR, Polynesian and BWV so far. I don't go too far from the laundry room but I don't sit there either. I put the wash in and then go back to the room, or to the pool for half an hour or so. Then back to put the stuff in the dryer. I will stay and read my book. That way I don't waste time going back and forth to check and I can add addtl. dry time if needed. But, I don't have any fears about leaving my stuff for short periods of time. I wouldn't leave it to go to a park or to eat dinner tho. That would be somewhat inconsiderate to those who also wanted to use the facilities. I have had to wait for someone to come back and empty the washer/dryer so that I could use it and it is frustrating. I don't like to take anyone's stuff out since I could be accused of messing with their things.

there was just recently a long thread about doing laundry if you look through the pages you should be able to find it . it may have some of the info you are looking for. i think it was called all moms do you do laundry at disney world? :wave2:

I do laundry mid-trip whenever we are at WDW. We usually stay at the YC, so I use the facilities there, which are right near the quiet pool. I do not wait with the clothes and have never had an issue.

However, I do agree with the suggestion to separate into small loads. The YC dryers are really bad and with a large load, it can take 3 cycles to get fully dry.

i *always* do laundry at wdw... and i enjoy it too! i have never "left" my laundry for a long period of time, but have gone back to the room, for a swim or to the food court for a snack or the pool bar for a drink... i enjoy my laundry time usually as a few minutes of peace and quiet... when the kids were littler i would do laundry a night or two and leave dh to put the kids to bed and i'd come back w/clean clothes and a bottle of wine... now i usually do it while we're having some pool time (and i appreciate the location of the laundry rooms at the resorts that have them poolside! great thinking!)

now, since we're on the subject... does anyone know where the laundry facilities are located at the dolphin? akl? por? those are the three resorts we're contemplating for our upcoming trip and laundry rooms enter into the equation! LOL!

I have only used the laundry at POR of the resorts that you mentioned. The one I used was at the quiet pool beside Magnolia Terrace. I believe there are others tho.

There are two at the AKL, one in each wing, near the secondary elevators (not the main ones in the lobby).

One is located on the ground floor near the pool.

The other is located on the second floor or the other wing.

I did a lot of laundry last month during our stays at POFQ and AKL. I planned to do some, but we all came down with a stomach bug, and well, I ended up doing A LOT... :crazy2: I left it there and would go eat, or return to the room. I noticed people doing it both ways, some would leave, others would sit there and watch tv or read. I never had any problems, everyone I encountered was very respectful. :) We were there for 12 nights, so I knew I'd need to do a few loads midway through unless I wanted to bring a lot of clothes. When we go in May, we're staying for 5 nights. I'm going to bring enough clothes so I don't have to spend time doing laundry... So, it depends on how long you'll be there! :)

gigi1313-At AKL there are two laundry rooms, one near the pool (Zebra Trail, Level 1) and the other on the opposite side of the lodge (Kudu Trail, Level 2). I used the Kudu Trail one. They both had the same amount of washers-5 regular ones and 1 of those side-loading ones. And lots of dryers... You can see where they are on the map: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/aklmap3.jpg
