Laundry Etiquette

It always seems odd to me that people just leave their clothes unattended and don;t remain in the general area of the laundry room. On the occasions where I stay in a studio, I set aside the time to do laundry, and will generally be seated at one of the nearby tables in the pool area using my laptop.

I mean, you wouldn't go to a regular laundromat in town and drive off and leave your clothes to do grocery shopping, would you? So why leave them unattended at Disney?

I do this all the time. If I need to wash things like comforters or blankets that are too bulky for my home washer, I take them to the laundromat, go do some errands, come back, put in dryer, do more errands. The laundromat is about a 5 minute drive from my house, and the grocery store is about 5 minutes further up the road. But, I am fortunate that I have a day off during the work week, so, I am not competing with others who need to do wash on Saturday morning. (Of course, I have to work on Saturday, instead).

I am of the opinion, also, that if 3 washing machines are open, and I have 3 loads of wash, I will use them. I am on vacation, I am not going to want to spend 1.5 hours waiting for the clothes to wash, then another 1.5 hours waiting for them to dry. I will simply put my clothes into the available washers. I have no way of knowing that somebody else is going to show up 5, 10, 15 minutes after I do. If they do, they will need to wait for my load to be done, just like I would need to wait for somebody else's to be done. Of course, if I am at WDW (or other hotel laundry room), I will stay in the room. Like others, there have been times that I have completely finished my laundry before another has returned for theirs. There have been times when the washers have been broken. That is why if we are going long enough that I think I will want to do laundry, I stay in a 1 BR villa. That way, I can put a load in the washer in the morning, then into the dryer, and it will be done when we get back. When I stay in a 1 BR, I plan on doing a load of laundry per day, and go home with clean clothes.

If you are bothered that somebody got to the laundry room before you did, and used all the washers, take a chill pill, say a few prayers, do some meditation, stay closeby, and the 30 minutes will be up before you know it.

I agree on the laundry basket. One time at Kidani I was using a paperbag. :rotfl:

I'm afraid the magnet and being asked to call etc. would make me feel like I was being asked to be the mom. I just expect the person to be responsible and respectful of sharing the laundry or to expect the clothes to be removed.
i have a pop up laundry basket that I take on trips. I agree that a laundry basket would be more useful in the studio that it is in a 1or 2 Bedroom, where the washer and dryer are in the room.

I would have removed the clothing from the dryer, folded them neatly and placed them on a nearby counter.

If the person who left them there for an extended period o ftime had an "issue" with someone else touching their clothing, then they probably should have paid more attention to their washing and drying times.

We do't stay in studios too often, but the couple of times we have, I have done laundry when we decided to sit by the pool for a few minutes so I could keep a close eye on my laundry washing and drying times, so as to not inconvenience others.

All for moving the clothing in the machines to a clean area in the laundry room. I would hope they would do the same. If I'm a few mins late I apologize but don't get upset if they move my clothes.

and not sure why but the thought of folding someone elses clothes kinda skeeves me out. It's a great gesture but I don't think I could do it.
