Today is my laundry day! I HATE doing laundry. I don't mind washing/drying, it is the lugging up and down the steps and folding process that I HATE!

Ok, so HOW in the heck DO you get towels to be snuggly soft? I have tried EVERYTHING! I load with fabric softner in the washer and then dryer sheets, wash with HOT water, rinse twice. Just doesn't work. Anyone have any "soft towel" advice?

Now that I'm working from home, I took over laundry duty again because it would take my husbands 3-4 days between running it and then folding it so I could put it away.

This is what I do: Pick a day when you do just sheets and towels. First thing in the morning, strip the beds and grab the towels. Run the load and then immediately put them back on. If you don't then you won't have sheets on your bed or towels!!!

Also, flylady.net taught me this. Bring a bunch of hangers to the laundry room with you. When stuff is dry, immediately put them on hangers and take them to your closet.

Another idea is to have a basket for each person so when you wash and fold it is for that person only. Hopefully one person at a time wouldn't be so big and impossible to carry.

Hope this helps!

I used to do wash by person... would wash all my clothes, then DDs and so one, that got to taking forever. I personally think that children should come out of the womb just KNOWING how to do their OWN laundry!

Seems like no matter how much laundry I do...there's always more to do.

Fortunately, DH likes to help.

When DH helps are the towels soft?

Softener will help, but it has little to do with the laundry. You gotta spring for better towels. Martha has some nice ones at KMart. Wait for a sale.

I detest everything about doing laundry. I thought once I had a washer & dryer in my house it would get done more regularly. Ummm, nope.

I can't help you with the soft towels- mine are soft, but I'm not sur they count as "fluffy soft"...however, I do NOT ues hot water in my wash...anyway- do you have a washer/dryer in our house? or are you going out to do it? I'm not sure given your "lug up and down the steps" part.

If your going out to do it- I cant help.

HOWEVER I will say that my DD7 & 8 do their fare share of laundry. DD8 can and does run both the washer/dryer at times. DD7- is still in training.

They each have a hamper by the washer/dryer. When their clothes come out of the dryer- they are put back in their hamper. These are NOT folded! I bring the hampers up to their rooms and put them in the doorway. They then fold/hang up all of their clothes, and put the hamper back down at the washer/dryer

I have a small basket that I toss their socks into- that gets put in the living room 1x a week- usually on Sundays- and they go through them and match their own socks and put them away

sheets are washed on Mondays now (use to be sunday, for some reason I changed) They get out of bed, and instead of making it, they strip it and throw it down to the washer/dryer. After school on Monday- before supper, they remake their own beds.

My girls are both younger than yours- I think you could enlist your DD's help in laundry!

And for the record- DH does laudnry here too...especially now that the wood stove is going- when he loads it, he'll swap the washer/dryer he folds and puts away too...just not quite as "good" as I do, so I try to do that myself, or just live with his towels folded the WRONG way in my linen closet LOL

::yes:: That's exactly why I hate laundry. And the more I procrastinate on starting it today, the more it taunts me!!!

No idea about towels though. We have some fluffy ones, and some not so fluffy ones. I think it has to do with the type/quality.

A little Bounce seems to do the trick:D

HECK NO! It would never get done if I had to GO OUT and do it! :crazy2:

My laundry is in the basement, and I have a 2 story house with VERY high ceilings! So it is a long haul! Generally I get my kids to help, but they weren't here this morning.

I think that it just boils down to I hate it and that is that. :p

The Bradys just don't know HOW easy they had it with Alice around! :rotfl:

there's something to be said for Bounce....

Our towels are a little rough, but that's from line drying.

Mmmm, soft towels... We use Bounce, too, and have very good towels and bedding.

Personally, I hate having a laundry "day." I try to do a load a day so I only have to fold/hang a load a day, instead of spending one full day going up and down the stairs and folding a bazillion loads.

Why, oh why, am I considering cloth diapering? :p

You could try a little Snuggle..........that might help out with the roughness

There was the episode when Alice "quit" and Mrs. Brady had to take care of everything herself.

There are certainly times that I'd love to have Alice to do the laundry. So far that hasn't happened.

My husband likes to help, so I'm lucky. He prefers to wash a load a day. I'm more of a put it off and do it all at once type. We try to find a happy medium.

As far as towels and sheets, I like Bounce and Snuggle. I think variety is the spice of life. ;)

Today was my laundry day too. I've been so busy I just start a load, leave and come back and then put it in the dryer. I just use the no static, fabric softener sheets!:D

Another laundry mom saying, "hi". For me, it is house cleaning day too. ::yes:: Usually I get it all done on Saturday, but our highschool football playoffs were yesterday.
