Does anyone know if the laundry machines at Fort Wilderness take quarters or dollars and what a load costs to wash and dry? Also, do they sell detergent in the laundry area or at the trading posts? TIA.

They take quarters and there is a change machine also they sell detergents but I highly recomend bring some from home I always buy the tablet deterent and bring softener sheets. I can't remember how much but I know it is a few $ per load. Also they can get very crowded depending on time of day etc.

Last time we went (Easter) it was $2 load to wash and the same to dry. Fortunately the dryers were new, the old ones were getting bad and took extra $$ to get the clothes dry.
The soap they sell is convenient but we always bring our own. With 4 people staying for 9 or 10 days we would have a mountain of laundry by the time we got home.

We always liked the tablet detergent, too, but have been unable to find it here lately. DW wanted some to send to college with DS (like he would use it anyway) and we like to throw some in the camper, but couldn't find it a couple of months ago when we were looking. Do they still make it?

I only use it camping and a box last a really long time. I know I bought it last Dec. I will check at super Wlamart and let you know.

Thanks for the info. I'll be looking for the tablets and packing my quarters. There will be 6 of us, 4 aged nine and under, going this December for 9 days. Some people have said "don't do laundry, you're on vacation". I figure that the parks will close early on some evenings (or I can be an early riser) and it's worth the time to do laundry if it means that I don't have to come home to "a mountain" to quote bigdisneydaddy.

I've also had trouble finding the tablets lately. It's a shame because they were so convenient for camping. The one problem I had with them was that they didn't always disolve all the way since I usually wash in cold water. At FW I would find undisolved detergent on some of the clothing when they were finished washing. I solved that problem by crumbling the tablet at the bottom of the washer before I loaded the clothes in a little warm water, then I stopped the machine while I loaded the clothes and switched the temp to cold. This solved the problem. If I can't find the tablets before our trip this year, I think I'll pre-measure a few zip lock bags of laundry detergent so I don't have to bring the box.

Do the washers at FW accommodate liquid laundry soap or just powder? I am a liquid person and the washers at our other campground use it just fine. I agree with the idea of doing at least a small pile during our 10 days - towels at least.

As far as the quarters - hmm... could this be an excuse to visit Atlantic City or Delaware Park before the trip (like, maybe, I would win a bucketful of quarters)? :earsgirl:

I didn't see anyone give you the exact cost. We were there just last week and we always do a mid-week load for towels, undies, etc. The cost is $2 per wash and $2 per dry.

Thats about as "exact" a price as ever I did see :rotfl:

I have found travel size Tide Liquid Bottles at Target. I think its like about 4 loads and works great for the RV since it doesn't take up much space. They were like $1.50 or so a bottle. I also used the Tablets and have not seen them in a long time.

Have all of the loops finally switched to the flat $2.00 for drying??

Last December Loop 1500 still had the dryers where even one quarter would turn on the dryer. It was great for a quick tumble to warm up my blanket before bed and warm up my towel for a minute before my shower.

I don't think I'll spend a full $2.00 just to heat a towel and/or blanket.

I never tried just 25 cents, we usually have a full load.
If I want something warm I just put it in the microwave :rotfl:

Yeah, the laundry in the 1600-1900 loop only took a quarter to get the dryer started a couple of weeks ago. 50 cents dried some hand washed unmentionables....... Note to self--pack more underwear :rotfl:

You said they were "unmentionable" and then mentioned them ?
I am confused :rotfl:

And, what is a good "safe" time (aka less-used time) to use a laundry area? Are they open 24 hrs? :goodvibes

Many thanks in advance.

Laundry is available 24 hours, but you will need your resort id to access the laundry areas between midnight and 6 am.

Who does laundry on Vacation!!!!!!!!!

What we do is anything that has a hole or a tear in it gets washed at home and put into a vacation box. We wear it one more time on vacation (usually travel days) and then throw it away.

We go as a family a few weeks before we leave to the goodwill or hit yard sales for clothes. In April a few weeks before we left we paid around 15 dollars to get clothes for 4 of us at Goodwill. We then just threw these out too.

When we got home we had two loads of laundry to do. Mostly Towels.

Home boss said we would have to do 5 loads of laundry at FW which would have cost us 20 dollars and more important, time away from the parks.

That is an interesting idea!! My problem is space and weight since I fly and tent camp, so I only bring a couple of changes of clothes. Also, I can't live without my cargo shorts/pants at WDW with all the pockets and zip off legs. I'm sure they are hard to find at goodwill/yard sales.

However, especially at Ft. Wilderness, laundry while it does cost money, it doesn't take any time away from the parks for me.

I usually wash each night at Ft. Wilderness. I drop my clothes off in the washer on my way to the shower each night, then when I get out of the shower, I drop my clothes in the dryer, then go back to my campsite, and organize things for the next morning, check my email and DisBoards, then go get my clothes out of the dryer and go to bed.
