Did a search for "bag check", and most were older comments. What is the latest info on bag checks? Just walk straight through with a bag? Size? Pocket books?

Walk through with your bag on your body, no need to ti open it. You do need to have umbrellas, sometimes external power chargers or metal bottle water in your hands with arms extended in front of you and walk through

After MANY of our items setting the new machines off(cellphone chargers/eyeglass cases/cellphone cases/earbud cases, etc.)we started putting ALL metal items in a clear ziploc bag and then we hold it out in front of our bodies as we walk through the machine and then when the machine alarms the Guard at the Security table has easy access to view our items.

Makes the process MUCH smoother and Guards tell us they really appreciate this.

If you have a lot of camera equipment that you can't carry out of a bag, ie camera, more than 1 lens, tripod, then you will have to step to a table and let them look through it. Also, sometimes droids at DHS.

So what is the difference between these new machines that now we can walk thru where before we had to give them our bags to search?

With the new machines they can tell WHERE the items are,not just that there ARE some metal items.

In our procedure, when we hold all of our metal items out in front of our body in a ziplog bag, they can "see" with the machines the metal in the bag and they can "see" there is no metal on our body.

Before you had to take your backpack off and have it searched. Then you may or may not have had to go through the metal detector. Now, you keep your backpack on but remove certain items that may set the metal detector off (umbrella, metal glasses case, phone charger), hold this in front of you and walk through and you're on your way. The first time I didn't realize that my glasses case that was in my bag would set it off. I only held out my charger and umbrella. They pulled me aside and checked my bag and told me about the case. After that, I held it out front along with the other items and just walked through and was waived on.

While we did the same, every single time they still checked our backback until we learned that my wife needed to carry the backpack I needed to carry JUST the cell charger. I'm slow though, LOL

So, the new bag check is much faster?

Yes. You literally walk straight through, one at a time, without stopping. No standing in line to then have your bag manually searched. In my experience, if you do get pulled to the side now, there are plenty of tables and they look through your bag very quickly; took maybe 30 seconds at most (and I had it happen 2 or 3 times before we figured out it was my battery pack setting off the sensors).

The only things we had to pull out and hold in front of us were umbrellas and hard shell sunglasses cases. We only have fuel rods when at Disney, so no large chargers.

I figured out that I don’t want to pull the sunglass case out every time, and rarely use an umbrella, so I started putting my sunglasses in a sock in my bag instead.

The only time my charger set off the detectors on the last trip was when I was actively charging my phone in my purse. All the other times it was off and didn't set things off.

As others have said, hold out the umbrella in front of you as well as any hard-shell eyeglass cases (learned that one the hard way, too).

This is such an improvement on bag check - faster AND no one touching all your stuff!

Same line, but if memory serves me right, wheel chair, scooter, and strollers move to the side of scanner instead of going through scanner.
I believe that was with the old scanners, the new ones are supposed to work with them coming through the scanner, but I don't know for sure. I can see when I go next week.....lol

I take a backpack & have gone thru numerous times since July reopening without it needing further searching.

I have plastic water bottles, plastic food containers, extra clothes & phone chargers/cords. I hold my phone in my hand as I walk thru. Super easy & fast. Even if they do pull you to search your bag, it's faster since not EVERYONE is having their bag checked.

Looking forward to trying this.
Sounds like a big improvement over the old system.
