I recently lost both of my parents (on the same day) so life has been sad, hectic, busy and everything in between.

I want to come back to Disney. I miss the fun. I need some fun in my life.

I've been studying up on genie plus. We used to hack and stack fast passes galore.

But...we never are able to stay in a park more than 5-6 hours due to my getting over-heated. Stupid thyroid surgery removed my thermostat.

How can one manage stacking genie plus if you're only there half a day? That 120 minute rule. Can you work around it by making a new genie plus rez after you tap in? Then do it again and again?

I appreciate any advice here.

The genie + rules are that you can make another reservation after you tap in or after 120 min have passed since you made the reservation, whichever comes first. For example:

8:00 am Made Reservation for Big Thunder that I can use from 9:00 to 10:00 am

9:00 am Tap in for Big Thunder

9:01 am Made Reservation for Jungle Cruise that I can use from 3:00 to 4:00 pm

11:01 am Made Reservation for Space Mountain

I made a reservation for Big Thunder at 8:00 am to use at 9:00 am, after I tap in I can make my next reservation for Jungle Cruise at 3:00 pm. Because I will have to wait a couple of hours to tap in on Jungle Cruise I was able after two hours to make another reservation.

If you don't want to be waiting that 120 min in the park, what I suggest is stacking for the evening. That way you can avoid the heat and enter the park with 3 or 4 reservations already. This works best at DHS because it has so many heavy hitters that the return times get later faster. For example:

7:00 am Makes reservation for SDD for 4:00 pm

If park opens at 9:00 am you can make your next reservation at 11:00 am

11:00 am Makes reservation for TOT for 6:00 pm

1:00 pm Makes Reservation for M&MRR for 5:00 pm

3:00 pm Makes Reservation for TSMM for 7:00 pm

You can arrive at 4:00 pm at DHS with 4 reservations already or get there earlier and see the shows and do some of the other less busy attractions. In other parks like DAK and EPCOT it is easier to get return times closer together, so you could tap in making a new genie plus reservation, tap in the next one and keep going.

I hope this helps, if I just confused you more I'm so sorry. Touring Plans have some great videos on youtube explaining all of this as well as Ears Scout.

Thank you, yes that does help.
My question would be, let's assume everything is available (I know...but let's pretend :lovestruc )
Why the jungle cruise so far out?

Usually the Jungle Cruise and Peter Pan are the MK attractions that get later return times the fastest, that's why I used this example. The thing a lot of people don't like about Genie+, myself included, is that you can't choose the return time. So, if the attraction you want to reserve has a return time of two hours or more you are stuck with the 120 min rule. In a perfect world the return time would be all close together and you could tap into one attraction after the other but most of the time that 120 min rule is going to apply.

So sorry to hear of your loss Hisgirl! You do need a trip!

Question about the bolded part. So, if I go on to get an afternoon or night reservation, will it give me options on what time I want my pass for Or just one time, take it or leave it?
Also, not sure I understand the part where you said that if the attraction has a return time of two hours or more you are stuck with the 120 minute rule. Can you give an example like you did in our first post?

It sounds to me that for folks like me who only do a half day, there isn't going to be much use of genie plus. Maybe two rides at most. I'm super sad about this. I miss the old fast pass.

It won't give you options for the time that you want, even if you are only visiting for the afternoon there is no way to tell genie+ that. The times are just one time, take it or leave it. Everyone sees the same times available. So even if you just want to arrive in the evening you have to wait until the return time is in the window you want. For example, I'm visiting MK and I know I'm arriving at 3:00 pm and I want to do Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan, Pirates, Big Thunder and Space Mountain with Genie +. It would go something like this:

7:30 am I take Peter Pan for 3:00 pm( Because my return time is more than two hours away and the park hasn't open I will have to wait two hours after the parks open to make my next reservation)
11:00 am I take Jungle Cruise for 7:00 pm (Because my return time is more than two hours away I have to wait 120min to make my next reservation)
1:00 pm I take Big Thunder for 7:00 pm
3:00 pm I take Space Mountain for 8:00 pm
5:00 pm I take Pirates for 7:00 pm

This is a best case scenario where when you go to make a reservation there are still some available, but if it's a really busy time there may not be any more reservations by the time you can make another one.

Yeah, if you are doing the mornings only I don't see a lot of use for it but if you are doing evenings you could stack during the day and use it when you arrive.

Another way to maximize Genie+ is to make a selection every 2 hours even if nothing you actually want to ride is showing available when you go to make your selection. Make it for anything and then immediately start trying to modify it for a better time or another attraction. This way, you reset your 2 hour clock but you aren't stuck with whatever is available at that time because availability does change. Being able to modify actually changes the whole game.

I'm so very sorry for your losses.

Is there any chance you will be there when After Hours are available? That's a good way to fit a lot into a short period without worry about Genie+ (and also helps avoid the heat due to the timing).

Edited to add link: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/after-hours/
I was just going to suggest After Hours if the dates fit. If you only can do 1/2 days I wouldn’t even bother with Genie+. Just use early entry/rope drop. Tron/Guardians will be VQ w paid LL and you don’t need Genie + to do paid LL.

Sorry for your loss. 😥

I'm so sorry for your loss. My mom passed in Sept (and my dad passed 9 years ago). It's so hard and I hope you have an amazing trip!

We're heading back in April for the first time in 6 years so all of this is new to me too. My son has a heat allergy: we're planning to do pool during the day (we are not Rope Drop people) and then late afternoon/evenings at the parks.

For G+, I'm planning to start booking at 7am and then try shifting times throughout the day for later while also booking new G+ times as I'm allowed, basically stacking for the evening.

For example, here's my hypothetical MK plan for a night with Deluxe EEH:

(Start booking at 7am and then reschedule until I get to my preferred time):

(Book at 7am): Tron ILL and Jungle G+ 4-5p

(Book at 11a, 2 hours after park open): Thunder 430-530p

(Book at 1p): HM 730-830p

(Book at 3p): Space 9-10p (tentative)

(after scan in for JC): PotC 5-6 or 7-8

(after scan in Thunder): Buzz 9-10p

EEH: we'll try for Mine train, PP etc

Check out Arctic Cool line of clothes. They really help with my son.
