What happens if you're late to an ADR? Do you lose your place completely?

You can indeed (sorrowful voice of experience here.) That's only happened once to us, but they did manage to get us in about an hour later. I *think* this was at Chefs.

Last March some of our party was late for our reservation at 1900 Park Fare for dinner. They will only seat a complete party. The hostess gave us 20 minutes grace but then asked if we wanted to take a smaller table and dine without them. I said no. She then told me that if they did not show up in the next 10 minutes that our table would be given away and we would forfit our ADR:eek: So it would appear that if you are late they will give your ADR away.

Depends how late you are. Part of our party was missing for Chefs and CP and they both only held the table 30 min past our adr and then we would be dining alone or not at all. Luckily they made it in time but they will give it away.

It can, depends on how busy the parks/restaurants are. I had a Chef Mickey adr in November that I had changed the weekend before going, from 9:30 pm to 5:30 pm (so I thought!/ When I got there, at 5:25! i walked up to the desk and said we were there. She laughed and said "um, your adr was for 4:30!" Luckily, we were a small party and it wasn't super busy that week at WDW, so she got us in in about 30 minutes. Stressful though!
