Late shopper - gift ideas

I know I am shopping late. I have done every excpet my husbands mother and step father. I planned on going shopping this week but, got bronchitis and never left the couch until today. These are tough people to shop for. His Mom asked for a coffee grinder, ok got that, but what else???? No clue for the step father. I told DH lets just get gift cards. DH says, I hate gift cards, there is no thought in a gift card, blah, blah... But yet he has no clue whqat to get either. Any suggestions? They are 55-60 age group.

If you are getting the grinder, then get her some nice coffee...maybe a nice cup or travel mug.

Not sure about FIL, they are hard. Gift cards do stink (I agree about the lack of thought) but at least then they will get what they want.

I have the same problem with my bf. He doesn't want to get his parents gift cards but at the same time wouldn't give me any ideas on what he wants to get them. We ended up getting a craftsman car buffer for his dad (he did pick that) and for his mom we got that thing that opens jar lids, I think black and decker makes it and a garden gift set with a planter some nice garden tools and miracle grow and some bulbs in it. She loves gardening. I picked his moms gift out, and the one for his sister, and bil, and nephew. So yes, his families gifts will all be picked out by me and they will have no idea... they will just think that he magically became a better gift giver .

I sent my inlaws the 7 meal pack from A la Zing that was posted here on the DIS awhile ago. It arrived on the 19th and I know they already made at least one of the meals (the day it came!). I'm not sure if its too late to have it delivered by Christmas, though.

My In-Laws are also hard to shop for. They always say they don't need anything (and they don't)

This year I got them a certificate to "Cruet & Whisk" (formerly Take-A-Way Gourmet. It is one of those places where you make a bunch of dinners. The certificate is good for 8 dinners to be made. I know she had mentioned she would like to try one of those places - so, I figured it would be a good gift. (oh and a Suduko calender as they are into that)

The gardening idea sound good, she loves to garden. I did think about the fresh coffee beans, that is an option. As far as meat, not sure if that would work. They are all natural people. The teach and practice raki 3-4 times a week. They eat all organic, no red meat, so I might need to rule that one out. These are some good ideas. Now for his step father.

A watch or Swiss Army knife based on his interests- ie- a tide timer watch for boaters, a fish finder watch for fishers, a Swiss Army Tech Knife for tech junkies, a camping version for campers. Tickets to a show or play. A car care kit. It is hard to say, knowing nothing about him.

I sent the alazing too. My mom loved it. Last year we got my inlaws a fire pit thingy...like you use outdoors, on a patio. They camp alot and always say they love sitting around a fire...so I saw it on sale and jumped. Its been one of their fav. gifts. How about a really nice coffee pot? We were given a mac daddy Bunn last year and I love it!

I know him and it is still hard to say. LOL. I suggested a gift cad to Southwest so he can go visit his son in Phoenix. His son just got out of the military, but dh did not like it.

That age group is really hard to shop for, since they already have everything! It depends how much you want to spend, but I would also recommend some nice coffee to go witht he grinder. Storyville coffee is a coffee that is being buzzed about on Buzzagent.com. They are a little pricey, but really great tasting coffee! And they deliver in a really nice giftbox, wrapped up nicely. You could always do something like that and have it delivered to her house right after the holidays. They have a great website too.

For the stepfather...that's tough! Does he like puzzles, like Sudodu or crosswords, or maybe comics that you could get in a bound book like the Far Side or something? I always have the worst time with my father and f-i-l of anyone...I usually delegate that to my DH, who doesn't like Gift Cert. either. I would tell him what I tell my DH. If you can't come up with a better idea, than I am going to buy ***Gift Card, and put him under the gun to help you come up with something!
