late night security questions

I'm planning a trip to the cabins (first time at FW) for next summer with DH and DDs (20 and 17). Last summer we stayed at GF and the girls really took advantage of (very) late nights to visit the parks while Mom and Dad were back at the room sleeping. DH is very safety conscious and I wanted to know if you would feel okay letting your girls travel back to the fort late at night alone. Could we leave a golf cart for them at the marina so they could drive back to the cabins? Should they take internal transportation instead? Would you give them little flashlights to carry with them? Are these silly questions? Thanks all.

We've felt very safe at the fort at night. We've traveled late w/o a problem. Our kids have driven around at night in the golf cart to see the water pageant or to go to the pool at ages 17/18. As long as they travel in two's or more it should be fine. Yes, you can leave the cart there for them and yes I would give them little flashlights to carry. Just make sure they know the way back to your cabin as it can be confusing at night.

I wouldn't worry about this at all, they should be totally safe. Of course, anything can happen anywhere, but in general, they would be safer than most other places.

Yes you can leave the golf cart there for them, and if it's dark out, I'm sure they wouldn't mind the flashlights. Some parts of the Fort can get a bit dark, but for the most part the main streets are lighted, so it's not like they will be totally in the dark.

Chances are there will also be other people milling around at the time, the Fort also has security that drives around. I doubt anyone would try anything there, just too public a place, even at night.

We let our older kiddos stay after for EMH as well. They use the internal busses and are never alone. If it were 2 dd's I would probably feel safer with the golf cart though that way they would not be standing and waiting for a bus. I have never felt unsafe at the fort, but ya just never know. Our next trip they will be staying late as well. I tire out easily due to some health issues and take the kids back to the camper while they have fun. We have never had any problems. Sometimes they just go out exploring. They love feeling independent and I feel comfortable with it.

Oh, BTW, they also have cell phones or I probably would not be so cavalier about it. I would be a nervous wreck waiting for them to get home.

Happy Camping!

We stay all winter and have never heard of anyone having a problem.....but although there is security anybody can get into the Fort by bus or boat. Carry a flashlight and be alert, not wary, just alert.

Yes, remember, though it's a campground, it's a Disney campground. Good visability, very well kept, good lighting. Leave them the golf cart and they will have no problem getting safely and quickly back to your cabin or camper.

I wish I didn't have so long until I go back!

Thank you for all the responses!

We'll definately leave the girls the golf cart. (My 17 year old is already excited about the prospect of driving it)

We booked the trip today, so its official...Fort Wilderness HERE WE COME!!:cool1:
