DH is worried that the weather will be worse in late January and is leaning towards President's Day week. I'm thinking the weather won't be that much different between the two - hit or miss either way - and the benefit of lower crowds outweighs any weather cost.

What do you all think? When would you go?

Lol... we were there for 11 days in January. Temps ranged between 25 and 30 degrees celsius. Last year at the same time we wore coats with hoodie and mitts. Four years previous it was between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius. It is hit or miss for weather at this time of year. :confused3
If you want low crowds make sure you avoid the Think 1/2 marathon. That brought huge crowds to the parks this year.

You hockey nuts and your Celsius :lmao:

Like you said, it's hit and miss. California this year had no rain and temps that were spring-like all January, with rain and cold in February. I would never go President's Day week. So many schools get the whole week off lately, it would make the parks a little busy. Still, if there's going to be a strange freeze, it will be in Dec/Jan; definitely not in February.

Last time we were there in January it was in the 80s (Fahrenheit). That was 2010. I definitely would do that over president's week, simply due to the crowds during the latter.

We were there the last week of Jan last year. Weather was PERFECT, mid- 70s, minimal crowds. The only downfall was that IASW and HM were closed because they were removing the holiday overlays. Other than that, it was great!

I will be so glad when you guys go metric:goodvibes

Comparing the weather in January vs February for SoCal is really pretty challenging. Like PPs said, it totally varies.

And honestly? We went the second week in December this past year when they were getting their "Artic Vortex" :lmao: that was all over the news. It was cold (in SoCal terms), windy, and rainy for several days. My DH and I are originally from the Northeast, and our girls, although Cali-born and bred, were just so excited to be there that they didn't even care! It was quite chilly, but we put on winter coats over princess dresses and wore rainboots and had the most marvelous time! Our first day with rain and cold kept so many of the locals away during what should have been a very busy weekend (Candlelight Processional), and one evening at DCA was so empty that the face-painters over by the Mad Tea Party asked us if they could paint our DDs faces for free because they had nothing to do! It finally warmed on our departure day, and the crowds were apparently insane. So truthfully, even if it is cold when you go, and there is just absolutely no way to predict that, there is actually some benefits to that.

Personally, I would never go over President's Day. We did that one year at WDW and never again. I'd imagine it is worse at DLR with the locals.

ETA: Added pic. :)

Thanks, everyone! I'm going to show DH the thread and mention that 3 Californians weighed in here. :goodvibes

And Susie, a shout out to Grande Prairie from Calgary. We've decided and we're going at the end of January. Thanks for all your help.:goodvibes

I think you'll be totally happy with your choice. (I had to say "totally." I live in the Valley.)

we went jan 15-21 and we found the low crowds awesome and the temp was great. you do need to bring or buy! a hoodie for the evening.

I checked some dates for you. The MLK holiday is January 19th next year and the 1/2 marathon has been moved to Mother's day weekend. Just after the 18th should be great. If you need any help, just ask. :wave2:

I just want to let you know that president's week was very busy this year. I repeatedly overheard CMs saying how surprised they were by the crowd levels.

There is also a large dance competition at DLH every president's weekend and the place is crawling with dancers. It is usually very crowded that weekend.

Bumping this old thread because for 2017 I'm having the same question. We could do 5 days during Presidents Day week in February (M-F) vs. 3 1/2 days with lower crowds in January, (Saturday-Tuesday).

According to one crowd calendar, The January dates would have crowds of 5, 3, 2, and 2 out of 10. Versus the February dates having crowds of 9, 5, 6, 5, 6

Obviously that 9 is scary (President's Day). I think I just answered my own question...... but thoughts are welcome.

We hardly ever get rain, but Feb has a slightly higher chance of rain. With that said, I've been rained out in January twice. I like both months. Yes, when schools are out, it will be much more crowded in the parks, but there will normally also be longer hours and more things going on. Weekends tend to have more shows, parades, etc, so if that is important to you, you may want to consider the January visit. I'd probably go with February because I'd like having more days.

We are all about the rides. And rain doesn't scare us! Thanks for the reply.
