I can't find the answer to this question anywhere, and I HAVE to know!

Has anyone done the following?:

1) Arrived at Orlando airport after 10pm
2) Left their checked luggage at the airport (proceeded directly to ME bus, did not pick up luggage)
3) Received said luggage the next day?

Not that I want to test this theory with my stuff, but if you have the bags tagged, and your plane arrives later than 10pm (maybe not your fault), and you just leave your bags, do they make it to the delivery service eventually? I fly Southwest, and they have pretty good customer service, so I would hope they would hold the bags and turn them over to the Delivery service the next day, but I really have no clue what would happen.

Any one ever done this or know someone who did? What ended up happening?

i have not tested this nor would i advise testing it.
if you arrive after 10pm whether you were scheduled to or your flight was delayed i would definitely go get your luggage yourself.
there's no sense in hoping your luggage will arrive at some point.

You should probably ask this on the Transportation board, but I'm pretty confident that the answer is DONT TRY IT.

The ME website info specifically states NOT to use the ME luggage tags and to collect your own luggage after 10:00. Ignoring these instructions would mean your luggage going round and round the carousel until MAYBE it would end up in the unclaimed luggage area. Or it could go home with someone else.

PPs are correct, I also would not try it. But I would suspect this happens pretty frequently because people don't read so they miss that they have to collect their own bags after 10pm. I would imagine the scenario minniemum describes above is correct - that it would go round and round on the baggage carousel, and eventually be collected by an airport employee and routed over to DME, who would receive it in the morning.

We were delayed one night, 5 pm flight supposed to get in at 7:15 and it so did not happen. We had already checked out bags with the yellow tags. What we were told then (and it has been a few years ago) was that when they see the yellow luggage tags, those do not go on the belt to be taken out to baggage claim. That they can actually be picked up before then and taken to a luggage truck that delivers to Disney. We got ours, very late that night, and we were told that we could have put a DND out and they would have held them to the next day. I believe the transportation board would be better but just call DME number and ask. They have been great when I have spoken to them.

This is true for flights arriving before 10pm. If your flight was delayed and you arrived after 10pm, it's my understanding DME will still pick up your luggage because everyone had been anticipating that to be the case (and also because the delay was not your fault). But since DME makes it known that you need to collect your luggage for flights originally scheduled to land after 10pm, I don't know why they would then route the yellow tagged bags elsewhere besides baggage claim. If someone is aware they have to collect their own luggage, they may put the yellow tag on it just in case or because they don't know better. That means they'd be at baggage claim then while their luggage was elsewhere. I could be wrong, but I'm just thinking it doesn't make sense logistically.

Your bags would make it eventually if someone else doesn't see them going round and round and grab them. Not something I would want to risk.

Have a friend that had a delayed flight once. Her luggage arrived at the resort after midnight, and they actually delivered it to her room around 1:30 am. Since she didn't have a "do not disturb" sign on the door, they delivered it when it arrived, waking them up!

I arrived at MCO once about 1 am due to a delayed flight. When we went to pick up our luggage there were about 8-10 suitcases with the yellow tags just lying on the floor in various locations in the area. It would have been so easy to walk away with any of those suitcases. There is no way I would chance it!

I know this thread is a bit old, found it googling "what happens to my luggage if I miss ME" - just thought it worthy to add:
I've been woken twice with delayed luggage around 1-2am in the middle of the night (both times it had been redirected by Southwest to the wrong airport). They ring the god-awful obnoxious room phone right by your head. Put out your do not disturb sign, but call bell services to HOLD the luggage when it arrives if you don't want to be called.
