Hi Everyone

I am new to DVC. Bought Direct in late Feb and just purchased 2 resales that I am currently waiting to close on. I thought that I paid my annual fees (prorated) on my direct points last month. Yesterday I went online to bank my points since I won't use until 2019. I couldn't due it since it said my annual dues were past due. I was getting ready to pay when I saw I now had a $55 late fee tacked on. Tried calling yesterday and told that department was closed and would open on Monday. Now I see that the site might be down Mon & Tues. I will still call tomm but has anyone everyone heard of these late fees, and being brand new do you think they will take them off?

Welcome Home!

Since you believed you had paid, it may depend upon how you paid. If you sent them a check, it is possible it simply has not posted yet. Check with your bank and see if it cleared before you call, and then let them know. If you opted for monthly debit from your bank account, it could be that they didn't get the debits all set up yet, so ask about that, if that is how your are paying.

If you are mistaken, and you didn't pay, it never hurts to ask for forgiveness as a brand new direct member. All they can say is "no" and you're no worse off for trying. If they do forgive the late fee, I would be prepared to pay your dues at that time, using a debit or credit card. Hopefully Admin systems won't be down when you call.

When did you buy? Dues are due by mid February, so if you purchased in late February, they should have been paid when you purchased.

When we first bought, we did a 3 year finance through Disney, and those payments were debited, and it took a little over a month for them to set up the debit. We paid by check for the dues, and I think we were billed after the fact for the prorated dues, and did not pay at time of purchase (we purchased in June). That was in 1992, so things may have changed.

Ask and see what they will do, if you don't like their answer, ask a different CM. Disney is known for different answers. FYI, at some point, probably if you don't contact them and a couple of months go by, they will cancel your reservations.

First check whichever account you think you used to pay - if you paid it should be fairly simple to locate the transaction on your account statement. It’s possible that your payment was not correctly credited to your DVC account.
Also look at your purchase papers and see if MFs were collected when you bought and not credited to your account.
If you thought you paid, but in the flurry of buying 2 new resale contracts you did not in fact remember to pay, then be prepared to pony up the late fee when you call, perhaps they’ll let you slide this one time, especially since you closed in the month MFs are due and perhaps the guide wasn’t clear that you’d immediately owe money on the MFs.

I spoke with a CM yesterday. I didn't find proof of paying but they did the payment over the phone. She was very nice and tried to teach me how to do it in case I did something wrong. When doing it it was declining the payment and she had to do it over the phone. Since she saw the issues I was having and I guess they have been having some issues with the website as well as me being a new member there wasn't a late fee. I would have paid if I had to, but glad I didn't.

I purchased Feb 23 but guess dues were not taking out at the time. They did prorate the dues since I didn't have it the whole year. This surprised me.

The service was down when I made my original call and I had to call back 1 hour later. I was stressed since I already waited since Sat. But in true Disney fashion all ended well.

I purchased direct at the beginning of January and my dues didn't hit my account until the middle of March with a due date of April 15th and a late date of April 30th.

They don't charge and collect the dues at the time of a direct purchase. The calculate the pro rated dues after closing and then send a statement. In general you receive the bill approx 6 weeks after you sign the papers to purchase.

Glad they helped you out!

Me too!

When buying resale does Disney send you a statement for 2018 after you close?

No - with resale it will be part of the closing where either you reimburse or pay the remaining dues for the year to the closing agent and they will pay it to DVC. Or else if the seller is covering and needs to pay something it will be deducted from their proceeds and paid to DVC. And in the past few years if you are closing towards the end of the calendar year then the dues for the next year will most likely be collected and paid at the time of closing.
