Late check out for DVC

We rented DVC points the last two year (and bought into DVC 2 weeks ago during our trip:cool1:).
This past trip we had a 6 PM flight. I request a late check out. The lady told me she put it in and it said pending and to check back later or tomorrow morning. When I checked back the next morning, a new lady told me it was still pending and it was probably because I was on DVC points and that we were not aloud to have late check out.
Anyone know if this is accurate? We were curious why the first lady wouldn't have told us.

it is accurate. it is not allowed.

it is not a happy-face sort of topic as late check-outs (called "self extenders") have resulted in many DVC stays having delayed check-ins that put them in really bad moods. DVC resorts operate pretty close to 100% capacity so a longer stay for you will definitely delay things for the next person.

you can book an extra night if you need it. or use the pool showers if you need to freshen up and change clothes.
 
By design the DVC resorts are fully booked all year round. They need the outgoing guests to vacate by 11am so that they have time to clean the rooms for the guests checking in that day. It's one of the downsides of staying in a timeshare vs a regular hotel room but then again, we've not been successful getting a late checkout when staying in a non-DVC room at WDW either!

What some members do in this situation is book an extra night so that they have use of the room until it's time to leave for the airport.
 

We fly to the UK and it is almost always an 8pm flight. We book an extra night and it is so worth it. It means we can have a last morning at the parks without worrying about packing, we have pool time then a relaxed afternoon before packing and leaving. That last day is one of my favorite memories from my last trip.
 
Here is an interesting story that happened to us. I purposely booked an extra night at Aulani so we could use our room until 3:30 pm when we had to leave for the airport for our flight. We checked out at the front desk at 3:30pm and explained that we were checking out a day early and had just booked the extra room so we wouldn't have to check out of the room earlier in the am.

Fast fwd a week or so and I saw some mysterious points in holding appear in my account out of nowhere. I could not figure out why so I called MS. They explained that they refunded the points for our last night (the number of points was accurate for the last night) since we left a day early. I explained to MS that We had purposely booked the extra night, understanding we would be using those points. She put me on hold (maybe to speak with a supervisor) and insisted they had refunded the points and this wasn't a mistake and strongly encouraged me to find a way to use them. So I did! Very strange error in our favor. I practically begged MS to take the points back.
